OS X Yosemite update on my MacBook Pro.. Not Good

I updated my 17-in. 2009 MacBook Pro with OS X Yosemite, my iPhoto and Aperture have disappeared and replaced with Photos, which I do not like at all.. I want my iPhoto library back. When trying to update the applications which were purchased it tells me I can not have these two apps as they are not a Canadian app.. I recently purchased 27 in iMac and it has not given me any problems in this department. Leaving in a month for a photography shoot, I am feeling totally lost. How do I get my original MacBook back? please help.. Appreciate any advise, thank you!

Aperture is in my Apps, iPhoto is not, it has disappeared. Aperture will not open up, it tells me it is not available. If I go to the app store, it shows my purchases, iPhoto and Aperture are both there, but will not update, when I search for these two apps, it tells me they are not available in Canada. Yes, all my photos from the iPhoto library are stored in Photos, but it is definitely not the same as iPhoto.. I do not like the set up at all.. I do not understand why change something which is not broken. I feel like I have a computer I do not understand. I just want my MacBook Pro back.. I have a month to get this figured out, the time is precious, certainly not on my to do list. Also, it tells me in Apps OS X Yosemite, "download" , which is done, if I click on the "download", it tells me it is already installed, "Use the Updates page to install the 10.10 update or if you would like to download the full OS X installer click continue" I am confused.. unsure if I should continue or let it be, and find a professional to clean this mess up before leaving the country. So frustrated. Thank you for your advise.

Never. Ever. Do an update without first making a bootable backup.

There are some great "news" sites that offer tips and advice, and alert as to what has changed and why with any update - waiting a few days for others to "kick the tires" so to speak is helpful and what I tend to do.

Yes, forced changes can be a nuisance or worse. My brother has resisted upgrade to Yosemite until forced, and when the last brick (10.10.999 🙂 is in place. Treating updates with kid gloves.

Thank you everyone.. I guess I was wondering if others are experiencing this, and how to fix it. I have been trying to figure it out for two days now, and getting no where. I appreciate all your advice, I will read the links you sent and see if I can solve the problem. Definitely regret making this update.. Thank you again.. Cheers!
