The only thing I can guess from this is that you MAY be in a spreadsheet - but text editors do tables too sometimes...

Hi Corinne,

If you are using the Numbers app, you can split a column if there are consistent 'split points' in each cell. Then you can use the LEFT, MID or RIGHT functions to pull data into other columns. Hint: type = in a spare cell to bring up the Function Panel, and type the name of a function in the Search Box for help.

Adding to ÇÇÇ's advice, a screen shot of a small part of your Numbers table will tell the story.

Please reply with a screen shot of a small part of your screen (command shift 4 and drag). Full screen shots (command shift 3) are often difficult to read.

Wayne Contello has written a User Tip on how to post a screen shot.

If you mean splitting a single column into two columns, this feature does not exist in Numbers directly. to get the same effect refer to the table below:

User uploaded file

If I understand your question you would like, for instance, for cell A1 to become two cells. To achieve this:

- add a new column after column A

User uploaded file

Column B is the "new" column

now select cells A1 and B1,

then select the menu item "Table > Merge Cells"

Just so you know... merging cells causes problems with sorting... proceed with caution
