kernel: IOHIDSystem: postEvent LLEventQueue overflow - OS X does not react for a few seconds

Since I exchanged my internal HDD w/ a 1 TB SSHD, I occasionally (2-3 times a day) get the problem that when I click anywhere, the mouse and the keyboard controls freeze on my MacBook Pro 2011 13''.

The screen behaves normally, everything is getting updated as it should - Twitter timeline moves, Little Snitch Firewall shows network activity, activity monitor dock icon changes - but if I click anything or press a key, nothing happens.

I can move the mouse, but the screen behaves as if I didn't (if I clicked a dock icon, the dock does not move at all as if the mouse was still at that position). That state stays for 1-2 minutes if I just wait, and resolves itself much quicker (10-20 seconds) if I repeatedly redo the click I did to trigger all of this - e.g. click the dock icon I clicked, or the tab in Safari, or the send-tweet-button in Tweetbot etc.

The corresponding message in the console is the following:

kernel[0]: IOHIDSystem: postEvent LLEventQueue overflow

I realize this obviously has something to do with the SSHD not working properly, but is there anything I can do besides reinstalling OS X which would take ages with my current internet or replacing the SSHD which would also take ages with my backup being on a USB 2.0 hard drive?

All software is on the newest available version (OS X is 10.10.3).

I won't get rid of Little Snitch anytime soon; the problem I encounter did not occur before a few months ago and I use Little Snitch since years. I also like it very much and find it pretty practical.

Problem description:

OS X keyboard and mouse inputs are ignored for several minutes.

You have a lot of applications and I do not know if you need them all. Case in point you have two wireless applications. If you are not using both services, rid the MBP of the ones you do not need.

A traditional method of finding applications that may be interfering with performance is to delete them and reinstall them systematically until the 'problem child' is found. In your situation, that is not an easy task. I still feel that LittleSnitch is not doing your MBP any favors.

I have had SSHD's in my MBP's with no difficulties experienced. I am more inclined to believe that you are dealing with a software issue, not hardware.

Ciao.

Yes, I am using most of the applications, but for the two wireless ones, I have no idea where they come from. Just delete them? (the Sierra ones and the Novate one).

I suspect the problem lies on the SSHD's end is because I googled the overflow and people are saying it's coming from a full HDD/RAM. I thought it may be that the SSD is full.

Yes. Go to the developers web site and look for uninstall instructions. Dragging them to trash may not be the proper way to delete them. Applications such as those do not appear spontaneously. Some one had to install them.

Though I have doubts, I suggest that you contact the manufacturers technical support unit. Perhaps there is a firmware update that is needed or some other explanation. I had Seagate's installed and they gave me zero problems.

Ciao.

I doubt that. One would only install telecommunications applications if one signed up for them from the provider.

What items do you have that will open at login? Perhaps a little pruning?

Try some basics:

Reset the the SMC and NVRAM:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204063

Then try a safe boot:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262

Any noticeable change?

If no success, than it seems a reinstall of the OSX or, as I suggested before, delete all third party applications and systematically reinstall them, are the only other options that I can think of.

Ciao.

This problem has nothing to do with the disk (HDD nor SSD). "IOHID" stands more or less for "Input/Output (handling of) Human Interface Devices" (aka the part of the core that handles user inputs via mouse, keyboard, etc.)

The wording of the error message suggests that for some reason too many input events have happened that were not fast enough processed by the system (or an application) for some reason, so the queue in the driver that collects them from the hardware for further processing was full. More incoming events probably were dropped or ignored until the queue had empty slots again.

I encounter this too (usually with Safari) since a while (I think since the 10.10.5 update.)

Oct 1, 2015 1:02 PM in response to Nikkiflausch

I've been having this issue with a late 2013 MacBook Pro since May 2015 (roughly) and after many many trips to the Genius Bar its still not resolved. I've had clean installs, complete formats of hard disc, logic boards replaced, RAM replaced, trackpad's replaced and top the top case replaced. I've even only had just safari open and the error occurs. I can make the issue go away, I connect a magic mouse and it never happens. As soon as I start to use the built in trackpad it happens. So... is it Safari or is it the trackpad? One thing I've not tried is to never use Safari and use another browser to see if Safari is the issue. I've just upgraded to El Captian and its still happening!

This is so frustrating as I love Mac's but I'm losing faith.
