Silverlight and Safari 7.1.6 Update Issues on Macbook running MavericksPro

I have tried running the latest version of Silverlight to watch Netflix content on my Macbook Pro with the Safari 7.1.6 update installed and had nothing but problems with websites not fully opening or security messages ("Safari cannot verify the identity of this website") when I tried to, as well as a loss of ability to open App Store or access Apple Support Communities for help. The problem was even affecting my lap top's ability to ramp up to cool itself. I worked for days trying to find a fix, even calling Apple and working with tech support. The only "fix" that is working for me (so far) was to do a complete erase and reinstall of OSX 10.9.5, ignore the Safari 7.1.6 update notice from the App Store, and using Firefox to run Netflix. Since then all of the above problems have been resolved. If you are having the same problems please don't waste your time with plist or other technical solutions. Just do not reinstall the Safari 7.1.6 update and run Firefox!

FYI,

I thought that by now it would be safe to update to 10.10.3 on my laptop (retina 2012); I did and things seemed to work. Then I updated Safari to 8.0.6 and noticed 2 things broken:

1. Netflix did not work. It gives an error, something about another screen, some copy protection issue working with the display, and there is no other display. It works fine with Firefox 38.

2. The Apple TV airplay can not be seen by the updated Mac. It did work, until I updated Safari.

These things seem related. I would not advise anybody updating to the 8.0.6 version of Safari.

Apple has been pushing out very buggy code; things used to "Just Work", but those days are over. Their help system used to be useful, but now I just use Google for apple help.

Come on Apple, clean it up.

Apple doesn’t routinely monitor the discussions. These are mostly user to user discussions.

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

Update: I spent hours restoring from backups, reload/restore/setup and every thing was working with 8.0.5. Then I installed Xquartz and wireshark, then Netflix error s7361-1253 and no airplay devices for that mac. So it may not be the update, but some xquartz os interaction. I uninstalled xquartz and wireshark, but the os / netflix still thinks there is some other non hdcp display, and no airplay devices.

For every install, it seems one must test everything, then make a backup, then install the next thing, test, and either undo or if ok backup, etc.
