imac shut off while playing a game on windows

Hello everybody!

I have installed a pc game (Test Drive Unlimited 2) on my bootcamp partition.

Sometimes, during the game, my iMac suddenly shut off, and than I have to wait few minutes before switch on again.

I have installed HWMonitor to check the temperature of Gpu and Processor. While gaming, the processor temperature get 89/90 C°.

The strange thing is that the minimum requirements of this game are are nothing compared at my iMac characteristics (Intel i7 3.4, 16 Gb Ram, Nvidia Geforce gtx 680).

Is it possible that could be some problems at the power supply of the iMac?

Do you know what happened around this time?

From your log, see the highlighted messages. There is ~3 seconds delay and the time adjusts from 10:49 to 08:49. This could also happen if the Time Zone of the Mac was changed.

I don't know what's happen during this period of time...

I will try with the Windows Events. Do you have some suggestion about how to use or which kind of logs you need?

I set the windows events, so once the pc will shut down, I will post the logs to you.

The strange thing is that the game requirements are ridiculos in front of my iMac features.

The game TestDriveUnlimited 2 require:

- 2GB RAM and my iMac has 16GB RAM

- NVIDIA GEFORCE gtx 280 and my iMac has NVIDIA GEFORCE gtx 680

The game shouldn't stress the iMac...

There are some old cases of nVidia GPUs failing. I have had a logic board replaced on a 2008 15-in MBP (silver keys) as part of a recall.

If you can start the game, but while running it, the GPU panics causing the OS to crash, there should be events in the Event Viewer leading up to the failure. Are there any screen resolution or other GPU settings in the game that you can modify in a controlled fashion to narrow down if there are specific settings which cause the Mac to reboot?

Do you see a BSOD? What version of the nVidia driver are you currently using?

About the game, I have not set the screen resolution at max level. Other setting has been set on low level.

The nvidia drivers for GeForce gtx 680 are the latest one updated at 18 May 2015.

I don't see any BSOD.

Yesterday I finished to re-install windows and updated drivers and windows (with windows update).

I only expect, the next time it shut off to read the windows events...

1. Can you uninstall/disable Avira and test?

2. Can you test using the original BC drivers for your Mac from System requirements to install Windows on your Mac via Boot Camp - Apple Support ?

Hello Loner T and thank you for your kind reply!

Of course I can disable or uninstall Avira.

I will try to install the Bootcamp support software 5.1.5621 (as mi iMac is late 2012 and 27", so the number of support is "5").

I assume that this kind of installation of the drivers is different than the one I have made via Bootcamp assistant formatting an Usb key on Mac OSX. Isn't it?

The process is the same. You can download the .zip file to a USB, and run setup.exe from Bootcamp folder, or run the .exe file for the specific driver. Please see the following links.

- Avira is disabled

- Bootcamp drivers are installed (before the installation, I have chosen the only option: "repair")

I suppose I have to play now and see if the iMac shut off again, isn't it?

In the meantime can I install another antivirus in the place of Avira? Sometimes I go on internet, and I wouldn't like to get a virus.

Or you suggest not to install any antivirus for the moment of the test?

If your past testing has caused the iMac to crash in 10-15 minutes, run the test, if possible without Avira and an Internet connection. If it does not crash re-install Avira and test with an Internet connection enabled.
