File sharing not working

Hi I have Remote Management and File sharing enabled on my Mac Mini. When I try to access the Mac Mini using Screen Share it works. When I try to see the directory using File Sharing the error says "Access to your account on the server "xxxxx" has been denied. I have checked that account name and password is the same as the user account on the Mac Mini. I don't understand why it lets me Screen Share but does not let File Share.

Regards

Brian

Go to

System Preferences > Sharing > File Sharing

By default only users' Public Folders will be shared. If you want, for example to share a user's whole home directory you have to click the + button, add it and then set the Users: permissions. Be careful here, by default 'Everyone' has read access to shared folders, which I think includes the guest account if you are incautious enough to have one.

1. If you haven't restarted the server since you first noticed the problem, please do that and test.

2. Are there any characters in the password, the server name, or the name of the shared folder other than plain letters and digits?

3. Are you trying to connect with an Apple ID, rather than the name and password of a user on the server? Select the server in the sidebar of a Finder window (under Shared), then click

Connect As...

and enter the credentials of the user who owns the shared folder.

If the connection still fails, and you're sure the password is correct, click

Change Password...

in the dialog and re-enter the same password.

4. Is the firewall enabled on the server, or is any third-party firewall or "security" software installed?

If none the above applies, select the log

/Library/Logs/AppleFileService/AppleFileServiceError.log

in a Console window on the server and post the messages (if any) that appear when you try to connect.
