MacBook Pro Screen Anti-Glare Coating coming off

I went to the Genius bar because there's a couple of spots where the anti-glare coating is coming off my MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display.

They said I must have cleaned it with alcohol and won't cover the fix. I am a little OCD about my stuff. I totally baby this Mac in transport, never stacked anything on it, and am quite sure I never cleaned this with anything but a microfiber cloth and non-alcohol lens cleaner.

There's a lot of people in the same situation and it's pretty clear (a) this is an Apple manufacturing problem and (b) it's too expensive and widespread so they're dodging it.

Here are my questions though:

(a) Does anybody know if they have improved the AR coating on the latest MacBook Pro models? I am tempted to sell this as-is on eBay and just get a new one. I am a diehard Apple user and upgrade every three years anyway (going on two now).

(b) Has anybody with this problem tried using a screen protector overlay on one of these screens in an attempt to deal with this? I am curious if one of those matte overlays would "even out" the appearance?

Apple really does optimize for elegance and finish, occasionally at the expense of durability. I am old enough to remember the ti book hinges. You just have to get okay with that.

Thanks for the response, Leroy.

Apple Genius bar already told me they wouldn't fix it once and the machine is out of warranty. Does it help to ask again? 🙂

I ordered the a Moshibondi matte screen protector, which the Genius recommended. Link below. I'll reply here if it helps minimize the scuff appearance.

Otherwise, eBay it is!

I suspect it would be very difficult to get them to do the work out of warranty without paying. Obviously it is a reflection on poor quality control and manufacturing process, I do not have my finger on the pulse on this issue, but rest assured you are not alone.
