Touch screen not responding to touch

I have an Apple Watch sport, paired with my iPhone 6. A few minutes ago I raised my arm to check the time, and the watch didn't respond. The screen remained black. I pushed the digital crown and the "enter passcode" screen appeared, but the watch face would not respond to my touch.

When I clicked and held the contacts switch below the digital crown I got the "power off" screen, but the watch didn't respond to my touch. I removed the watch, cleaned the back of the watch and my arm, put the watch on and held both the crown and switch to reboot the watch. The Apple logo appeared, and the watch rebooted.

The time showed, then the passcode screen, but again the watch was unresponsive to my touch. It had all worked just a few minutes ago. I hadn't dropped the watch or hit it; I had just raised my arm to see the time.

I rebooted my iPhone, saw that my watch was still paired, then rebooted the watch. I've rebooted the watch about 7 times now, and still the watch face is unresponsive to my touch. The watch was fully charged last night and lasts all day. I took off the watch, recharged it for a few minutes, put on the watch, rebooted, but still it's unresponsive to my touch.

Now, when I raise my arm nothing happens; the screen remains black. When I press the digital crown, the time shows with a little "lock" icon, but the watch is unresponsive to my downward swipe. In a few seconds the passcode view shows, but I'm unable to enter the passcode. Force touch doesn't change anything.

The watch still shows as paired with my iPhone, but the watch screen is simply unresponsive.

Please help!

Just had my Apple Watch Sport go unresponsive on the screen, was still working and the screen would come up, but just unresponsive to touch. A hard reset (both buttons held down for 10 seconds) seems to have cured it. Rob

This just happened to me a few minutes ago. I was using it to control my iPhone to take photos and video of my son's birthday, then set it to charge, came back a while later and it wouldn't respond. Tried hard reset, restarted iPhone, watch hard reset again, and again...I probably did about 5 hard resets...and then finally it started to respond. The only thing that was different today is that I installed VeriSign VIP access app on it, but didn't open it. I only opened the Camera app on the Watch before setting it down to charge. I'm glad I didn't have to take it in to Apple Store!

Hi, MikezMac,

I've done this about 8 times now, but no success. The touch screen remains unresponsive. I can't get to settings because the watch wants my passcode first, and though the numbers display, they are not responsive to my touch. Just a few minutes before, all was working well. I didn't drop or otherwise subject the watch to any force, everything's clean, it's paired with my iPhone 6.

Bottom line: the touch screen doesn't respond to my touch. Ouch.

The hard reset worked for me (holding both the crown and side button until the Apple logo appears after the black screen) although the process did give me a moment of panic. The Apple logo came up after the back screen and it appears to be frozen. So I repeated the hard reset several times, never getting past the Apple logo. Put the watch down to call Apple customer service and shortly after it came back to life and is working again. Patience is not one of my stronger qualities.

Just 3 days ago, without sustaining any physical abuse, my Apple Watch Sport started to freeze and become unresponsive to any kind of touch input: swipe, touch or force touch. Of course, I did do a hard reboot; unpaired it and then paired it again as a new; reset everything to original settings and paired it with a different iPhone. The issue persists. I brought it to the Genius bar where a technician confirmed the issue and sent it for repair to some other facility. I strongly feel that I should have received a replacement but that was not the case.

I am still waiting to get my watch back. I will post an update whether they have replaced it or repaired it.

I have also had the same problem that others here have had: my watch became irregularly unresponsive, then totally unresponsive, to any form of touch. It wouldn't stop the timer I had set for exercise. So I did a hard reset and it seems to work OK. Let's see if it continues to happen. This seems like a common problem that Apple should take total responsibility for, especially considering the price of the watch.

Problems like the touch screen not working are common with all electronics, and the more complicated and advanced the device, the more common these problems are. A hard reset is common practice when this happens. Even the ENIAC computer from long ago had to be reset every so often. In fact, part of routine maintenance on the ENIAC was to replace every one of the forty thousand vacuum tubes contained therein, which had to be done once a year, if not more often. We've come a long way since then.

My apple watch also become unresponsive to touch. At least in my case I think there is a bug in the passcode software causing this. I used my apple watch for 2 months never enabling a passcode. Just a few days ago started using the passcode to use apple pay. This morning when I unlocked my watch entering the passcode the watch display appeared but the touch screen would not respond. I did reset pressing both buttons and the watch touchscreen than started working fine.
