Hi there!!

I'm currently having the same issue, did you manage to solve this by your self? Or was it necessary to take it to the Apple Store? My watch went into power saving mode and then unresponsive when I tried to charge it or turn it off 😟 It's been a week now & still no luck.. red thunder bolt along with the time are shown but unable to reset the watch by pressing both buttons.

Any advice?

Thanks in advance

Try these steps:

Disconnect your watch from the power supply, wait a while and then press and hold the side button and the digital crown for ten seconds. if nothing happens, keep holding them up to thirty seconds and if it still doesn't do anything, I'm afraid you will have either of two options: a.wait for the battery to run down and the watch to reset itself (which can take a week or so) or b. go to the apple store and have your watched replaced. or maybe they'll be able to fix it.

Good Luck

I had the same issue this week with my Apple Watch 2. The battery had drained down and the watch got stuck in Power Reserve Mode. Pushing in the side buttons didn't help.

While on the phone with Apple Support, I decided to move the watch charging cable over to the ipad charger (it had been on a phone charger). After 5-10 minutes, the Red Lightning Bolt switched to Green and the phone came out of power reserve mode. I think the extra amps that are provided by the ipad charger were enough to charge the battery sufficiently to escape out of power reserve mode.

Worked for me and saved me a trip to the Apple Store to troubleshoot.

My apple watch warranty has expired, so I followed this instruction, draining the battery. Then I found out that my charging cable is also busted; the adapter is working fine. It took a bit over a week to drain the thing off. After over an hour of recharging on other people's charger, the watch is now back on working. I'm getting a new cable.

Hello Dimitrakis,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

If your Apple Watch went into Power Reserve on its own, then you may just need to charge your Apple Watch first, and then power it back on.

Turn off Power Reserve

To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo and wait for your Apple Watch to restart. You might need to charge your Apple Watch first.

The same thing happened to me last night. The screen froze with the clock face and the PIN number screen over the top of it. Looked odd. It went into power save mode. I connected it to the charger as it was under 10% power and this morning it is stuck in power save mode. I have tried the reset hold 10/30 seconds both buttons. Nothing happens. Also tried the power button by itself. Nothing happened. I've had this watch for ages with no problems but appears this bug has developed. In the Bluetooth options it says it's. It paired but on the watch app it says it's paired. Guess I'll have to wait until the battery dies in a week or so and see if that resolves it!
