new entries revert to "new event"

Just within the last few days, Calendar has begun consistently misbehaving. I create a new event, assign it to a calendar, fill in information such as time and notes. I close the editing window, the new title displays (I'm using Month View) for just a second, and then it reverts to "New Event," and everything I've entered is lost. Oddly, when I enter all the information a second time, it always seems to stay.

As far as I know, I haven't made any changes to my OS (10.9.5) or to Calendar (7.0), neither via their settings nor any other way. FYI, I'm using iCloud to sync between the calendars on my MBPro and my iPhone (4S, running 7.1.2).

I know I'm chiming in late, but this is absolutely lame that Apple will not fix this in the OS it's a problem with.

Apple, not everyone can or wants to move to each new level of the OS as soon as you want them too, if ever. So much for, "It Just Works"...it's more like, "I Just Works....well sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't"

My work around has been to use my iCloud account and do it on the web.

Hi Hueyo

Thanks for this workaround, although I'm not sure I quite understand 'contextual menu' and 'right click' on a MacBook Pro. Are you saying, save the event without changing the calendar (usually the point when it defaults to 'New Event'), then amend the calendar holding down the <Cmnd> key as you do it? That's worked for me so far, but I may have just got lucky.

FunkyRico,

How did you get an "on my mac" calendar? All I see are my iCloud account calendars. What OS level?

From an older look at this forum, this issue seems to have different manifestations depending on which Calendar View you're in. Day View behaves somewhat differently than Week or Month View. I, too, was confused by warwickweb's description of "form on the right side of the screen (underneath the calendar)". I figured out he was in Day view, and he probably means the second popup that forms, this one in the RH column overtop of the day's schedule. See screenshot below.

I still do not have a solution to this behavior on Mavericks. Maddening that I can't use iCal to create a new event.

I have this irritating problem also, .

I have stumbled upon a 'work-around' that's easy for me . . .

Firstly, for me the incident occurs when i enter the new event into an iCloud calendar . .

So, I found that when I enter the new event in a calendar "on my mac" , i't's OK . .

THEN I change the calendar to an "on iCloud calendar it sticks,

an then syncs properly with my iPhone 6S . . .

hope this helps others . . .

How do you get an "on my Mac" calendar? All that shows for me is the iCloud one. When I go to the File menu and click on New Calendar - the only option is an iCloud one.

I've had these same issues as everyone else of having to input my event twice to get it to stick. However, oddly, my husband, who has the same operating system and is using an iCloud calendar has never had any problems! Go figure!

I don't see a choice for an "on my Mac" calendar. I always look at my calendar in the month view. I just double click on the day I want to add an event and I have quite a few different categories of Calendars I can choose to add my event to. Such as Work, Dr. Appt., Fun, various projects, etc. I still don't see anything about an "on my Mac" calendar. I'll check out the help for Calendar and see.

Thanks,

It doesn't actually appear to be an "on my Mac" vs. "iCloud" issue. ALL my calendars are "iCloud" calendars. The issue seems to be which calendar is set to "Default". Whenever you create an event, it automatically starts the event as being in that Default calendar. But put all your details in and then try to change the calendar to a different one, and seconds later... everything is gone. :-/

But the workaround mentioned in this thread of keeping the initial entry in the Default calendar, and then once you've closed the entry window, right-clicking and changing it to the correct calendar, does seem to work.

A dumb 2-step fix, and you'd think Apple would be all over this. But whatever...

new entries revert to "new event"
