new entries revert to "new event"

Just within the last few days, Calendar has begun consistently misbehaving. I create a new event, assign it to a calendar, fill in information such as time and notes. I close the editing window, the new title displays (I'm using Month View) for just a second, and then it reverts to "New Event," and everything I've entered is lost. Oddly, when I enter all the information a second time, it always seems to stay.

As far as I know, I haven't made any changes to my OS (10.9.5) or to Calendar (7.0), neither via their settings nor any other way. FYI, I'm using iCloud to sync between the calendars on my MBPro and my iPhone (4S, running 7.1.2).

iCal has been around for how many years? A bug of this magnitude should be addressed immediately, but Apple hasn't even tried to fix it - and this particular bug has been all over Google since at least May last year! What good is a calendar that you can't even trust to keep track of your appointments? And it really shouldn't be the end users job to find workarounds. For a short period of time, while waiting for a fix, sure, but not for years. Sorry, Apple - Jobs has been gone for too long, and I think it's starting to show. So here's my final workaround: Switch to Outlook or whatever.

Don't disagree with your complaint about Apple's lack of addressing the problem.

But as to the "switch to Outlook" idea... I used that for years as it worked better with the company I was with, who used Exchange for their server. But now that I'm not there, I've switched to the native Apple email and calendar, etc. apps, and there ain't no going back for me. Outlook is archaic, and cumbersome... typical of the Windows stuff.

To those still experiencing this in 2016, I contacted and worked with Apple care on this issue in Dec 2014. They convinced me an upgrade was the only solution; alas upgrading was not the fix. Initially it appeared to help but after awhile the "New Event" issue returned within Yosemite. Apple has not fixed this 2 years later.
