new entries revert to "new event"

Just within the last few days, Calendar has begun consistently misbehaving. I create a new event, assign it to a calendar, fill in information such as time and notes. I close the editing window, the new title displays (I'm using Month View) for just a second, and then it reverts to "New Event," and everything I've entered is lost. Oddly, when I enter all the information a second time, it always seems to stay.

As far as I know, I haven't made any changes to my OS (10.9.5) or to Calendar (7.0), neither via their settings nor any other way. FYI, I'm using iCloud to sync between the calendars on my MBPro and my iPhone (4S, running 7.1.2).

MacBook Pro (13-inch Early 2011), OS X Mavericks (10.9)

For me it is all about a workaround. I have no external HD free at the moment, so an upgrade to Yosemite, as safe as it might seem is not an option.

What Apple does or doesn't do is not within my control, so I am not going be concerned about Apple.

I bought my first Mac 20 years ago (Classic II) and it was revolutionary compared to the then more widely accepted Windows PC.

Even if I would be annoyed about the ongoing issue, I couldn't come up with an alternative that so gracefully integrates hardware and software. It's just a bigger business now, so they might take decisions that are in their interest and not that of some consumers. Overall, their service has been absolutely great.

Just to dispell a rumor I see on this board:

Yosemite is NOT the answer to this problem. I have Yosemite. I have the same problem as all of you.

It is a monster PITA. I've made appointments only to return a day later and try to piece together emails to see who I'm meeting and when.

The workaround seems to help.

Ouch! That is not good news... except perhaps in the sense that Apple can't simply ignore the problem. If upgrading isn't a solution, then they're just going to have to fix it... fingers crossed.

Just upgraded a company over the weekend with 6 iMacs sharing 6 iCloud Calendars from Mountain Lion to Yosemite 10.10.3, and New Event problem is happening with ALL computers! Will try hueyo's work-around and see if that helps. Wish I had seen this thread first! 😟

So your client didn't have the problem until you upgraded them to Yosemite?? THAT'S a new wrinkle.

Seems to me, Greg, you're in a very good position to call up Apple Support and raise ****.

(Oh, I didn't realize Apple had the advanced technology to turn my H E double hockey sticks into asterisks. Wish they'd put that brainpower to work on OUR little problem.)

Upgrading to Yosemite won't solve this. We've been running OS X 10.9.5 for months & this problem just started happening (within the past month). But we might have found a solution: got to Preferences > Advanced, and deselect "Turn on time zone support." For us the problem stopped immediately. Knock on wood.

Curious - does turning off time zone have other implications? When you travel? Seems strange that this would be the fix and will wait to see if others try it as well!

You're right, it's only a temporary kludgy solution — because time zone support is essential when one travels. (Before my next trip I'll of course turn time zone support back on.) But if anyone from Apple is eavesdropping, this might help find the bug & then they could give us a real, clean fix.

My time zone support has always been off on my iMac but on on my MB Pro and I have the same issue on both.

Oops. Just turned it back on and the disappearance problem didn't occur. (Which says to me the time zone support isn't involved.) The "fix" must have just been coincident with my turning it off. I'm astonished that Apple isn't on this.

I've always had time zone support 'ON' and this problem continues to plague me.

I think we need to continue to provide feedback to apple as per earlier posts - keep knocking' on their door.....

Stating the same to plea for a remedy--since last week all new calendar entries revert to New Event. I have several New Events now on my calendar and can't reconstruct what my commitments are. Very disruptive, Apple. Please resolve.

Just as a suggestion for people who are critically dependent on Calendar, you might want to take screenshots of your calendar in whatever format (daily/weekly/monthly) is most useful to you. That way you at least have something to check against if your entries go wonky.

Yup, got the same problem.

If you haven't already, PLEASE LET APPLE KNOW:

1) Go to http://www.apple.com/feedback/

2) Scroll down and choose Calendar

3) submit bug report
