No text tone sounds from Iphone when paired with Apple Watch

Since I paired my Apple Watch with my Iphone, I get taptic and sound on my watch, but I don't get any text tones from my Iphone anymore. I have assigned text tones to my GF, brother, etc. I used to be able to hear their specific text tone on my phone and know it was them texting without having to look at the phone. Now the Iphone doesn't make a text tone sound at all, however the watch will still buzz and make a sound when a text comes through. Anyone know how I can get both text tones back on my Iphone while still keeping taptic and sound on my watch? Thanks.

I just got an iWatch over the weekend for my birthday. I'm very unhappy with this issue. The sound is not loud enough and the vibrate is not strong enough. My children texted me and I missed that. Looks like i'm going to return the watch this weekend. Both the phone and watch should sound off.

I am missing so many of my text messages because the watch noise and vibrate are never heard by me.

I would like to be able to hear a text tone from both the watch and the phone at the same time as my phone is almost always nearby.

Disable Wrist Detection in the Watch app on your phone. You won't be able to use Apple Pay on the Watch and you will need to unlock it to do much more than check the time. However, you will here the tones on both devices. I think this has been mentioned more than once in this thread. Did you read the thread before you posted?

Why can't you make this a setting option for users.

Because neither I nor anyone else in this thread works for Apple. You can submit your feedback to Apple here:

Very disappointed in this missing feature.

It's quite intentional on Apple's part. And, the major reason I bought the Watch.

And the work around for how to accomplish that has been posted more than once in this thread.

You can also submit feedback to Apple here:

But be aware, when Apple first released the Apple Watch (not "iWatch", by the way), they made a big point of explaining how notifications worked, and why they thought it was a benefit for them to only sound on the one device. You may not agree with the design philosophy but it appears to have been carefully thought out.

Best of luck.

Take a look at this support document about Apple Watch notifications. Notifications on your Apple Watch - Apple Support

This will explain how they work. You also have the option to turn up the volume on the watch, and adjust the vibration to the stronger settings, including adding Prominent Haptic.

And has been mentioned, there is a work around to receive notifications on both devices, however you need to understand that disables some features designed to work with the security of the watch.

I think we're into semantics here. One can call it a fix, change, workaround, solution, hack, or any other word. It doesn't change the fact that people would like for it to work differently. There is a way to do that.

Precision is useful in a technical support forum. If it were a bug, we would be hoping that Apple would fix it. It's not. And while there is a workaround, it is not without drawbacks (e.g. inability to use Apple Pay, having to enter a passcode to do much more than check the time).

I suggest that anyone who would like to see different features submit feedback to Apple:

Complaining here won't help though. This is a user to user support forum, and Apple does not participate here. If you wish to see Apple change or enhance a feature, you need to use the feedback link here, http://www.apple.com/feedback/watch.html This will get it looked at, however as stated on that page, they will not provide individual responses.

It isn't a new setting, it has always been that way and was designed to work this way. This is so you can inconspicuously be notified when you have text messages, etc. If you want to suggest that it be optional go here: Feedback - Apple Watch - Apple

I'll be the one asking you to be quiet when you turn this option on.

Thanks for confirming that. All of a sudden, I'm seeing posts claiming that this has changed. I was beginning to doubt myself.

Actually, it is a problem by definition because it is something that people do not like and would like it to be addressed.

The watch is working as Apple designed it to work. Apple may not agree with you that it's a problem to be fixed. And they are under no obligation to do so. Apple is well known for providing the interface they've decided people should be using rather than the one people ask for. It means that Apple products aren't for everyone. Personally, I like the way it works.

Sorry, but they do not. But you would have known that had you read the TOS that you saw when you signed up the for site. If you read the information provided in the User Guide, you can get the iPhone to provide you with notifications as well as the watch, depending on how you have the watch configured. Normally though, with the default configurations, when the phone is locked, you will receive notifications on the watch instead of the phone.

APPLE! Please fix this!!! This is perhaps the worst idea you have had since iPod socks! We need an ios update immediately to make our phones work like phones again and actually do their job of notifying us when we receive a text.

You do realize that, until very recently, a phone acting like a phone didn't involve texting at all. My brother would think you are nuts. He is of the opinion that phones are for talking on, none of this new-fangled texting nonsense.

My phone still notifies me of texts when it's not locked or when I'm not wearing my Watch. Of course, I bought the Watch so it would handle notifications. After all, isn't that the point of a watch? 😉

Meg, text messages have been around for over 20 years. Nearly 9 trillion text messages are sent per year, compared to about 900 billion phone calls. I have made 3 calls on my cell today and have made a few dozen texts. Cell phones are about texting now. And yes, the idea of the watch was to make this easier, not harder. Which is why I am so upset. I am missing texts because I am wearing an Apple watch. Every notification sounds identical, and when I am distracted I don't notice the watch, whereas I would always notice the phone because of the very loud tone I use. The point is, how can Apple assume that users would never again want their phones to notify them about text messages when that is what users use their phone for? It was a foolish design flaw and one that they really need to fix.
