After the Apple Watch 1.0.1 Update, Heart Rate stopped working...

After I updated my Watch to 1.0.1, the heart rate monitor no longer monitors my heart rate in the background. It only monitors my heart rate when I ask it to take a reading.

This is really, really annoying. Has anyone else experienced this? It was working perfectly before the update.

Apple Watch, Watch OS 1.0.1

. I bought this watch primarily as a fitness tracker and I've been checking my post every 10 minutes on the health app since I got it there were a few Mr readings but as soon as the update it is completely random most of the times waiting an hour or even two hours between readings and only really works properly if I manually go into glances to perform the check. IIt has been logged via apple care twice and they even lowered the priority the second time as the engineers didn't see it as a high priority issue! As I was the only one with this problem and they had no other complaints about it.

I Have changed bands from Milanese to sports band but still no luck.

I'm certain it's a high priority issue now. Every forum on every relevant site has tons of posts about the issue. Probably the number one reported issue. And has been picked up by some of the well known tech web sites.

What you guys are describing is exactly what's been going on with my Watch from the beginning. It skips lots of heart measurements, and when I'm cycling it takes forever to take a reading.

Am I the only one? Did anyone else have this problem before the software update?

I haven't updated yet, and now I'm wondering if it will get even worse.

This is a strange issue. While reading all these complaints I went to my Health app on my phone and found the HR data recorded there every 10 minutes like clockwork so I thought "oh that's good that's one issue I don't have". But then I found that it only records that data while I'm at rest, sitting down. To check this I got up and went for a 20-30 minute walk and the last recorded time was prior to my having left the house. Sitting back down now it's gone back to every 10 minutes.

Now if I engage the exercise app it records every minute and actually multiple times a minute.

Even though this appears to be a bug it also appears to be deliberate. Almost as if it's been programmed to only record a "resting" heart rate unless you've engaged one of the activity/exercise functions in which case it records multiple times a minute. But it works consistently for me - sit around doing nothing, every 10 minutes - get up and walk around for whatever time, nothing, - engage an activity/exercise app, every minute/multiple times a minute.

I've checked this quite a few times and it's completely consistent. That really seems like a deliberate setting.

a) if you read the entire thread - that is not consistent with everyone else's experience. For example I have been at my desk all morning (with an exception to go to the john a couple of times).... and my watch missed the entire 10 o'clock hour and the only reading so far during the noon hour is one that i initiated and instead of giving me 1 reading it gave me 3.

b) if you read some of the apple news blogs it is a software issue that will be fixed.

That's definitely a bug. For me it's so consistent that it appears to be a deliberate setting that got corrupted on others' devices. If it continued to work the way it is, for me now, I'm not speaking for you guys, I would probably be ok with it. Especially if it saves battery life.
