I have an airport express that is recognized on the network but the popup states "This version of AirPort utility doesn't support this base station." Can I update firmware or is it too old to use?

What exact model of the AirPort Express do you have? Is your MacBook Pro running OS X 10.7 or something else?
Thanks so much for the quick reply... Airport express model #A1084 and OS X 10.10.3. From what I've found it sounds like I should just bluetooth music instead of mess with this dinosaur. I sure would like to resurrect this airport though instead of tossing it in a drawer.
You can still administer this older 802.11g base station but not with your current OS X Yosemite Mac. Instead, you will have the choice of using either a pre-Lion Mac or a Windows XP / 7 PC to be able to run the appropriate version of the AirPort Utility.
