iPod touch cannot be synced an unknown error occurred (-50)

I am trying to sync my iPod touch gen 5 for the first time in maybe two months and iTunes is giving me first an error that the iPod cannot be found. However, iTunes then allowed a backup of my iPod. The next error was "iPod touch cannot be synced an unknown error occurred (-50)"

Has anyone else experienced this?
