Error Code - 36 when Mac to PC File Sharing.

Hi all

Got my 20" imac delivered yesterday morning and have been trying for the life of me to set it up so that the mac can see the files i share from my Windows XP PC. ( It works the other way. PC can see Mac's shared folder) Both computers share the same workgroup and the Windows Sharing and Personal File Sharing are checked on the Mac and its also enabled on XP. I followed the following guide which i thought would have sorted everything out.

http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/3020.html

However, at stage 5 when connecting to a server i recieve the following error.
"The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data in smb://192.168.0.3 could not be read or written. (Error code - 36)

When looking through the document on the Apple support website about Error Code 36 it doesnt mention anything to do with the error i recieved below which is taken from the console.

mount_smbfs: negotiate phase failed: syserr = Software caused connection abort

Has anyone any ideas how to fix this? If so id be very grateful for any suggestions.

Thanks

With Pro, you should be able to do it from Administrative Tools>LocalSecurity

Try this. Reboot the PC.

The following options should be set in the Security Options section of the Local Policy (And Domain Policy, possibly). The settings dealing with SMB and Secure Channel are of particular importance if Microsoft Networking and Resource Sharing are to be used.
Note: These policy settings just create and set registry keys (that is, they are just a pretty interface for the recommended registry keys settings).

I have had this exact same problem (the error code -36) trying to connect my new mac mini to a windows xp pro laptop. I can access the mac from my windows laptop, but not the other way around. i only just found this post so i haven't gone though all the suggestions yet but i would be very interested to know if you find a solution.

Will let you know if I find a solution myself(!)

Thought we lost you.
Over on the PC, go into MyComputer, then ToolsMenu, FolderOptions, "View" tab.

Find "Use Simple Sharing", and untick that.
(this setting doesn't seem to be in XP-Home...you said you're using XP-Pro).

(those local settings changes really didn't help?!?)

Are you sure you're logging in from the mac over the network, using a username/password of an account on the PC?
