The metal part (obviously not the glass) gives off a slight tingling shock all the time. Not painful, but annoying to hold it and, if you brush up against the edge accidentally, it definitely gets your attention! Is this normal?

Not normal. Take it in for service.
Unless the power adapter is plugged into the iPad, there is no possibility that the iPad would give you a shock. If an ungrounded power adapter is plugged into the iPad, one-half of the line voltage is passed onto the chassis and metal casework, at a very low current. Annoying, buy not unsafe.
Thanks! It's plugged most of the time to one cord or another. And when I unplug it the tingling stops. I won't worry about it. I have cords allover the house - some must not be grounded. I'll fix that, too. Thanks so much. Aren't the Communities wonderful?
