How to create (or copy) a new iCloud.com AppleID with same info as my current AppleID?

I have an Apple ID which is my Yahoo account name.

I am now using an app (Outlook) that needs to use an iCloud (as in iCloud.com, me.com, or mac.com) in order to allow contacts and calendar from iPhone to work to show up in the app.

What steps should I take to create a new iCloud.com id that is a copy of my current Apple ID with all of its information.

In other words, how can I transfer my apps, photos, contacts, calendar from my non-Apple iD (XYZ@yahoo.com) to XYZ@iCloud.com?

Note: All of the apps I have so far are free ones; I have not bought any apps. I have no music nor videos; only free apps, phone setisphotos, contacts, and calendar information.

Thanks.

iPhone 5, iOS 8.3

Hi Gail, like I mentioned before you absolutely can create an iCloud account with an iCloud email all from an iOS device. If you try to create an AppleID from let's say appleid.apple.com you will need a valid email but if you go through the process in Settings > iCloud on an iOS device you can create an iCloud email instead of using one that already exists. If you would like you can test this for yourself.

I realize this is not the same as creating a new AppleID with an existing iCloud email but that is not what OP is wanting to do so I didn't address it. Plus every iCloud email is also an AppleID so there would be no need to do that.

I am a bit confused by your question. You should be able to synch and use Outlook with your current Apple ID (the name yahoo is just that a name for the Apple ID and has nothing to do with the yahoo service). In any case:

Apps, digital content and data synched/purchased/downloaded with one Apple ID cannot be transferred to another new Apple ID. You can however change the "name" of the Apple ID to a new one as long as it is not a .mac or.me ID. So you should be able to "change" the name from yahoo to iCloud.

If I create a new XYZ@iCloud.com account and it has all my apps and stuff, why can't I just get rid of my old XYZ@Yahoo.com iTunes account and use the new XYZ@iCloud.com account as a the new iTunes account?

In this way, I could use the new XYZ@iCloud.com account just for my iPhone, iTunes, and iCloud.

I only use iTunes for my apps, and all those apps are free. I have NO purchases on iTunes of any sort and no music, no videos, no books, etc. I get my digital content elsewhere and none of it is on my iPhone.

The Outlook app is able to get my Yahoo emails and its contacts and calendars (as well as that of my Gmail account). But, Outlook app cannot access my iPhone's contacts and calendar unless it has access to my iCloud account. And for some reason, it requires that iCloud account to be either icloud.com, me.com, or mac.com.

So I need to either transfer all of my current iCloud data from my XYZ@yahoo.com address to a new iCloud.com address of the form XYZ@iCloud.com.

Or, if there was a way for me to rename my old account to a new address XYZ@iCloud.com.

If so, at what point do I register the new address, before or during the transfer process?

Thanks.

In this case you'll want to sign out of iCloud on your device, you will get an option to keep everything on your phone. Then from the iCloud menu there you'll want to create a new account, during that process it will give you the opportunity to create a free iCloud email address.

You may also be able to achieve a similar effect by just going into iCloud settings on your device and toggling Mail or Notes to on. This will prompt you to create a free iCloud email address as well. You may be able to use that email address with Outlook.

Good luck!

Actually you cannot change your primary email to @icloud.com if it is not already and if it's already @icloud.com you cannot change it to anything else.

And "starting from scratch" means next to nothing as far as iCloud goes. He can easily migrate almost all data to a new iCloud account without issue, then he can continue to use his previous AppleID for iTunes and App Store so he doesn't lose any purchases or subscriptions.

Like I said above the contacts are super easy!

Simple as that. It will upload the contacts as soon as you create the account.

If this is still not making sense to you I would recommend you contact AppleCare at 1-800-692-2273 or expresslane.apple.com

As far as iCloud, maybe. But that is debatable. In my book a new Apple ID is just a hassle and yes, you are starting from scratch. But you have already told the OP how to "migrate" his contacts to a "new" iCloud account....

Even free apps have licenses attached to them so the only way you can update them in the future is to enter the password for the AppleID that "purchased" them. So you could, in theory, just start using a new AppleID but you will end up having to delete each app and downloading a new copy of it.

IE. Starting from scratch...

But he doesn't have to do that. Even if he creates a new iCloud account he can use the old AppleID for iTunes and App Store without "starting from scratch" the idea of using this iCloud account for iTunes and App Store was positioned by JacobianWife not me. I recommend against it, but it's far from difficult to do the migration at this point. I'm not sure why you're being so adversarial about this.

I stand corrected 🙂 and thanks for explaining exactly how to do that. I so very rarely do anything via my iPhone, and could not figure out how to set up an Apple ID using an iCloud.com email address (can't do it via a Mac....), so thanks for solving that mystery! 🙂

As far as the OP, I am still not clear on what the OP was actually needing to do. If she is indicating that she needs an iCloud account in order to sync to Outlook, then there is no need to do anything except to create an iCloud account on her existing Apple ID. So, that is why I recommended that.

Again, thanks for the enlightenment (I now officially have 3 Apple IDs, with one of them being an iCloud.com ID! YAY!!!

Cheers,
