When I plug my headphones into my macbook pro, the sound continues to come out of the computer speaker.
I have tried inserting a wooden toothpick into the port.

Why insert a toothpick?
How old is the MacBook?
Thanks for replying.
It's a 2010 model.
As for the toothpick, if your headphones don't work when you plug them in, it can sometimes help to wiggle a wooden toothpick around in the port. Gets something moving that must get stuck. I hoped it might work the other way around, but it did nothing.
It sounds like the jack may have failed. Your best option is to take it to the nearest Apple Store for diagnosis.
Thanks. I've booked an appointment with a genius but can't get in until next Tuesday.
It's a long time to go without being able to listen without disturbing others. :-(
I kinda hoped there'd be a trick like the toothpick that someone might have heard about.
Never mind.
Thanks again. 😀
