I recently have gotten a text message that turns off your phone. How can we stop this from happenin?

Unfortunately, unless you turn off Messages until the crisis is over, there is not a lot you can do to stop it. I find it extremely disturbing that many people are reporting that their "friends" sent the message to them. Wow, with friends like that.....
And then, even if you blocked the so-called friend, it would undoubtedly be sent to you by yet another "friend" who probably also thinks it's funny to push you in the pool with all of your clothes, wallet, and iPhone on your person.

We can't even get our son's message app to open up now. I have tried all the workarounds but none of them work. Any other ideas?
If you don't tell us what you've tried how can anyone make a suggestion? All that is likely to happen is for you to say "Tried that". So follow the posted links, and tell us what did not work.
I know you think you are trying to help Lawrence but there are lots of kinder ways to say what you said.

Restore your device from a back up using iTunes. If you don't have a recent back up, you will lose some data.
