iPhone 5S, iOS 8.0.3, bluetooth and airdrop not working

Hi, I just got my first smart phone today and it happens to be the 5S using iOS 8.0.3 for software.

However the bluetooth will not connect to my laptop using Maverick or my iMac using Yosemite. The connection fails. Yet they both connect just fine to my husband's old non smart phone.

And airdrop will not connect to either my laptop Macbook pro using Maverick or my iMac using Yosemite.

Have others had this problem and if so, how is it corrected? I'm pretty upset about this because I had planned to use airdrop and bluetooth all the time. It WILL connect to my bluetooth ear piece though.

Thank you

Martha

An iPhone will not pair via Bluetooth to a computer (Mac or Windows) except for personal hotspot and then only if your cellular plan supports it. https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-7722

If you are attempting to use Handoff/Continuity, that does involve Bluetooth but the devices are NOT paired; Bluetooth just needs to be on and the devices in range of each other. The following may help with Handoff/Continuity issues: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204678

For AirDrop it is also the case that Bluetooth must be turned on but the devices are NOT paired. Also, to use AirDrop between an iPhone and a Mac, the Mac must be a 2012 or later model and must have Yosemite installed -- note that requirement applies to AirDrop between an iPhone and Mac but not between two Macs. See the system requirements section of Mac Basics: AirDrop lets you send files from your Mac to nearby Macs and iOS devices - Apple Support

UPDATE ON AIRDROP NOT WORKING

HI! Yesterday I received my iPad mini with ios 8.3, same system as the iPhone. And it, along with the iPhone, cannot recognize my 2012 Macbook Pro using system 10.10.3 on it but the iPhone and the iPad recognize each other and I can airdrop files between them. So when the iOS 8.3 expert called me back today from apple we went through more setting and possibilities and she transferred me once again for the 4 time over to the computer specialist. Since both of my new devices were having the same problem not recognizing my computer but could connect with each other, this time he couldn't blame it on the iPhone and he is looking into what may may correct the problem. I hope to hear back from them both soon. 🙂 At least I now know for sure that there is nothing wrong with my two new devices.

He also said that apple was aware of the fact that there are iCloud issues going on and they are working on that as well.
