My ipod Doesn't Play My Songs

Hey chris!

Does this happen with songs you've purchased from the iTunes Store only, just all the songs, or only some iTunes Store purchased songs, some not?

Your songs may not be in the right format for your iPod.

1 - Connect your iPod to your computer.
2 - Click on your iPod's library in iTunes (if you don't see this, then click on the "|>" arrow that's next the the name of oyur iPod, and it will "open up the contents").
3 - In your iPod's library, select a song from your iPod's library that you know has skipped when played.
4 - Right-click that song, and click on "Get info".
5 - Click on the "Summary" tab. In this window, see what's the format for that song.


Also, have you tested this: are you sure that your earbuds are plugged in enough? Also, have you tried other earbuds or headsets on your iPod?

First, go to your iPod on "Settings > EQ". What is your EQ set for? If it's a specific sound setting, then try switching it to "Off". If it's already off, experiment around changing it from "Voice", to another option.

This may work for you, as switching around with the EQ settings has done for others whose iPod's restart or skip.


In iTunes, go to "Help > About iTunes". What version are you running? 7.0 or 7.0.1?

If you aren't upgraded to 7.0.1, I would first suggest to try that. Download it here -> iTunes 7.0.1

After installing 7.0.1 (if you don't already have it), then be sure that your iPod's formware is updated to the latest version. Do that by:

1 - Connect your iPod.
2 - Click on your iPod in the left-source panel.
3 - Under the "Summary" tab (you should be on there anyway), see if your iPod is up-to-date or not. If it isn't, I would suggest upgrading to the latest version of firmware, and see what that does for you.

When you connect your iPod and there's an exclamation point next to its songs, try double-clicking the exclamation point next to the song. Does it say this?:

"The song "~~~" could not be used because the original file was not found. Would you like to locate it?"

If you get this message, try to see if you can locate the song's original source.


If this doesn't work, it's probably a good idea to start fresh. In this case, a Restore might be helpful.

I have a problem similar to d), but the seconds are not ticking.

It happens after a few hours of non usage of the iPod. Everything seams to work fine, but there is no sound. The earphones are well connected. The clock shows 00:00 (not the song playing time). After a reset of the iPod, without touching anything else, it works again fine.
It seams that this problem occures after the iPod gets into sleep mode or "deep" sleep mode (Apple logo showing up). Usualy I stoped the iPod in the middle of a song or podcast and held the pause/play button until it switches off.

It's not critical for me because I know now how to deal with this problem (reset the iPod), but perhaps someone knows a better solution.
