Connecting and assigning external midi device

Hi, I'm just starting out with digital recording so need help. I have a midi keyboard which connects via usb-usb and roland TD12 drums which connects via midi-usb connections.

The problem is:

1. With the keyboard, I can see the notes being displayed in logic's bottom area but no sound comes out. I want to use the keyboard only as midi input device and the sound is to come from the software instrument. Please help.

2. If I wanted to use the midi keyboard to write drum parts, specifically using hyper editor in logic pro and step editor in logic pro x, how do I assign which key to which sound?

3. With the roland TD series drums, I'm having a problem with connection. It just doesn't connect or register. Can somebody please help how to track down where the problem is and how to connect it?

4. I assume that once I got the answer to question no 2 then assigning which drum pad to which sound would be exactly the same as assigning a key to a sound, wouldn't it?

Appreciate any assistance.

Thanks.

I'll just try and help with #1 since you're seeing notes in Logic but not hearing any sound.

Are you using a separate audio Interface or the computer's built-in sound? (I'm guessing the computers built-in audio)

First thing to do is a basic setup of Logic's audio section, for now ignore your computer's system preferences, set up Logic's audio section separately within Logic's Preferences.

Go here: And read: http://help.apple.com/logicpro/mac/10/#lgcpbb81aca5

As a new user I can't stress how important it is for you to read the setup/preferences section of the manual. (all of the manual actually but that's a different story)

Have you created an Instrument track and loaded a software instrument? Create an Instrument track and load the EXS24 sampler or use one of the presets to load a set of drums... which you should now be able to play from your keyboard. Check youtube for Logic videos, pretty much everything is covered. Be patient, there's a lot to learn.

Now that I'm in Hyper Editor in Logic Pro 9, and getting ready to write some beats, how do I set the note value to a triplet based note, rather than a quarter note base? I've got my Global Tracks settings in the Hyper editor to show everything including the time signature etc but I wanted to write in 4/4 but in triplet base notes and maybe have the denominator set to maybe 9. This is not available, because it only shows the denominator for an even number subdivision. Can you please help. Thanks
