My older Mac mini with Mavericks will read and write SD cards but my newer one with Yosemite will only read only. Thumb drives and files will transfer with each other but no SD cards will work. Slide locks are not engaged. Is this a preference?

When inserted in Finder right click on it and select Get Info. Under Sharing and Permissions is both Read AND Write listed?

Under sharing and permissions it says " You can only read". This card works fine in my other Mac and in my laptop. I reformated on the other Mac but no luck.
On the "Get Info" window under Sharing & Permissions click on the padlock in lower right, then enter your admin PW and change to read & write
The card reader is stuck in write-locked mode. I don't generally advise do-it-yourself hardware repair, but one ASC member managed to fix this problem. I haven't tried the fix myself and I can't offer any guidance beyond what's in that discussion. If you cause damage, don't expect your warranty to cover it. I suggest you instead make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.
I looked at some YouTube videos and saw where someone used an SD card reader in a usb port and it works fine. I went into the file sharing section but could not get any SD cards to enable the write function. I will check out the link and may attempt the fix but am content for now.
