Ipod 5 will not turn on

Hi, today my ipod won't turn on. Battery was only on 40%. Have tried all the steps your site suggested (charging etc) however I can't force start up as my home button does not work so I have been using the alternative touch home button so the steps don't comply to me. How can I turn it on if my home button ain't working please?
