scrambled graphics with Yosemite

The graphics on my monitor get scrambled and then the computer freezes and has to be rebooted. It happens randomly, regardless of what I'm doing at the time. It started happening just recently but I upgraded to Yosemite 10.10.3 a few months ago. I tried resetting the PRAM but that didn't help.

Sorry - you're right - I'm on a PowerMac G5. However, I am unable to launch AHT from the DVD. I tried holding down "D", command-D and "C" (which is what the Read Me file says to hold) and nothing works. AHT will NOT launch.

I should also mention that I no longer have SOUND on my computer. So, that is another issue in addition to the scrambled screen. I wonder what those two issues combined indicates. It seems like it's more than a graphics card hardware issue if sound is also involved.

Any other troubleshooting ideas? I have spent way too much time on trying to get to the bottom of this without any results. Thanks!
