Items can't be copied because you don't have permission to read them

Hello,

a reoccurring issue that I haven't found a solution to: I'm trying to copy & paste multiple folders from a Virtual Drive (in this case a mounted Bitcasa Drive) to my local drive. Every time I receive the error message: "Items can't be copied because you don't have permission to read them". Clearly I believe I do, which is why I can't explain the issue.

Other topics I've found on the issue:

(Yosemite) Items can’t be copied because you don’t have permission to read them.

(Snow Leopard) Items can't be copied because you don't have permission to read them

I'm running OS X Yosemite 10.10.4 (14E26a).

I have read & write permission both on my local and my Virtual Drive. I'm also logged in as the Admin.

I've also verified disk permissions (although the mounted Virtual Drive doesn't appear there, only my local drive - therefore probably a pointless step).

I've run "Carbon Copy Cloner" as suggested in the thread above. Also no luck with that.

Any suggestions much appreciated!

This is likely a problem with the BitCasa drive's setup. Provided you can create a folder or copy a file to your destination folder from another location (besides the bitcasa drive), the error you are seeing says you cannot "read" the files, and not "write" to the destination. While you might be able to go to the BitCasa folder/drive and adjust permissions on it, you might look into contacting BitCasa support for how their product handles files and what they might suggest as a solution.

@Topher Kessler

Thanks for the comment. I recognize that this is not a 'write' issue. I'm also able to read/write normally on my hard drive, so the assumption is that it's to do with the Bitcasa Drive.

I'm already in touch with Bitcasa Support trying to narrow down the issue (no luck so far), but seeing that similar issues have occurred with other Mac OS X users, it may be easier to ascertain a solution through this forum.

Any other ideas much appreciated.
