If I have a Polar FT60 HRM chest strap, can I NOT connect to my new apple watch!?

I've been trying to pair my HRM to my apple watch for more accurate reading.. I was told the apple watch should pair with HRM chest straps- which was a selling point to me bc I knew the wrist thing would not be accurate in comparison... I have a Polar FT60 HRM chest strap. Am I just out of luck? Or have some solutions/advances been found?

Apple Watch, iOS 8.3

it's suppose to work according to

http://www.polarworld.com.au/products/h7-heart-rate-sensor-for-apple-devices

if it's bluetooth then to pair a bluetooth with a new device one needs to put the bluetooth device into pairing mode / discovery mode otherwise it can't pair

how one goes about putting the device into pairing mode should be described in the manual of the device
