How do I delete "Documents and Data" in podcast on my Iphone 5? I know how to delete individual podcast and podcast episodes, but won't allow me to delete the "Docs and Data". I have limited space on my phone and it's taking up an increasing amount.

Same issue here. Ever since I updated my 5S to iOS 8.3, the Podcasts app's "Documents and Data" have been piling up, despite my having deleted all downloaded podcasts. I have no idea what it's doing but it's up to 4.5 GB now, with no explanation! And of course it's a stock app so deleting it's not possible, and 8.3 disabled third-party file browsing software so I can't go into the guts of the phone to find these inexplicably huge files and kill them manually.

I'm on iOS 9.3.4 and yes, still present. 4GB of wasted space here.

I swear it's anoter part of the Apple conspiracy to force you to upgrade your phone often. Complete ********. Why aren't you listening Apple??!

Question, anyone know if this backup and restore process messes up anything related to using your phone for 2 step authentication. i.e. if using the Authy or Google Authenticator, or Blizzard Authenticator apps?

Good news for everyone that has been dealing with this issue - iOS 10 has a new feature that help resolve the Podcasts storage problem.

One thing you can now do in iOS 10 is 'delete' stock apps from your device. It doesn't really delete the app, but it deletes the icon link from the apps and it also *removes associated data and configuration files!* This means that deleting the Podcasts app will also delete the huge data file.

Once removed, the Podcasts app can just be readded from the App Store, and the settings are instantly restored from your iCloud account.

I tested this out and regained over 1GB of lost space.

Well, that apparently means iOS10 Podcast App is still building up these huge cache (or whatever) files and we would have to delete and re-sync Podcast App at regular intervals. While it’s a good thing that now this can be done (without a complete restore), it’s still suboptimal.

For how much time have you been using it to build up that 1GB?

Another thing: On iOS 9 I tested if the phantom files would go away when filling up the iPhone storage to the brim. The result was negative: Fotos App did optimize its storage (as expected), but the 3GB Podcast phantom files remained unchanged!

I’m curious to know if this is still the case with iOS 10.

Thank you! That worked for me. I had 19GB showing under the docs and data! I took screen shots of my podcasts incase they didn't restore and then deleted the podcast app. It took a few screen refreshes before reaching 20GB free (started with 1GB free). I then restored the podcast app and my podcasts are downloading again now. FANTASTIC!

thank you again!!!
