Can I install MAC OSX on Custom PC?

Hi All,

If I buy Mac OS X v10.7 Lion or Mac OS X v10.7 Snow Leopard Am I able to format my hard drive and then install MAC software instead of Microsoft. I have a custom PC with OLD windows 7 but would like to know.

Also what is better Mac OS X v10.7 Lion or Mac OS X v10.7?

I agree with riwakawd I like that with Windows 10 you can make the computer as powerful as you want, but with OS X what you get is what you get (not saying its bad). I like Mac OS X software because it integrates with Apple ID apps and is very clean and simplistic, whereas Windows 10 isn't really as clean or user friendly, and doesn't integrate with Apple ID. They both have their pros and cons.

The issue is that Apple doesn't make money by selling OS X, note that last two versions have been free.

Apple makes their real money by selling machines, i.e, Macs, iPads, iPhones, or iPods.

Giving OS X away for free so that people could use it on PCs, thus avoiding the purchase of Macs, makes absolutely no economic sense.

I don't agree. I love Os X but i didn't buy a mac. The psychology isn't so simple. If Os X was available to purchase more and more people would be using it and get to know apple quality. Now few of them do. Apple computers are not only good because of their OS they are quality products. Os X could be expensive to buy if you don't have a Mac and i would still buy it and i know many people who would too. Oh by the way i forgot about the apps. The app store could be much much bigger success this way.

To elaborate on what Allan Eckert said. Apple tried selling the OS in the '90's and by the mid-90's they were weeks away from going out of business. They had to get an infusion of cash from Microsoft, and then cancelled the business of selling their operating system.

Apple is a hardware manufacture. They do not make money from software sales. Letting their software run on someone else's hardware does not make them any money. And all it does is create headaches because they do not control the hardware and if the software only works 75% because of hardware issues, Apple gets a bad reputation for something they did not control.

Besides, Apple's current business plan seems to be working very well. I cannot imagine why the Apple management would decide to use a previous failed plan and abandon the current very profitable plan.
