track pad won't click on login screen

My trackpad has stopped working just on the login screen. I can move the mouse around but cannot choose an account to login under. The click functions does not seem to work. I have attached a wired mouse and when I use it to login in then the trackpad works fine. Any ideas I have searched the forum but can't seem to find much,


Running Yosemite 10.3

Late 2013 i Mac 3.5 Ghz Core i7

This has bugged me for years. The workaround has been to take a mouse with me but it has always mystified me as the trackpad is working when logged in. I found that the suggestion on this page, Step 2, to set the trackpad speed to the midway point has worked.

A big thank you to the non-Apple website for this solution. I suspect it is quite an old post but there are other suggestions too which might work in your case.
