Icon Sorting Indicator
MacBook Pro (15-inch Mid 2012), OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)
In Yosemite, the indicator is now at the top of the Finder window.
You can customize your Finder window by going to Finder>View>Customize Toolbar
I tried dragging the indicator to the bottom of the Finder window but it did not work. 😟 You can post your concerns over on the Product Feedback website.
Thank you for your help Baby Boomer. I put the Arrange button on the Toolbar but when I click on it, a checkmark is on None. I have submitted feedback to Apple but it seems to be ignored. I thought there might be a Terminal command or a 3rd-party solution to make that indicator reappear again. In Snow Leopard and older, it was nice to have that indicator there on every window so you could see at a glance how your icon view was sorted. i.e. By Name or Snap to Grid. Starting in OS X 10.7 Lion and higher, with no indicator present, I now have to bring up View Options to see how a particular folder window is set. I think it was unnecessary for Apple to remove the indicator
