iPhone 6 front camera only 1.2 megapixels

I've recently noticed that some photos taken with the front camera of my iPhone are not as clear as photos taken from the rear camera. I assumed at the time that my LifeProof case may not have been totally clean at the time so I did some tests without the case. I compared images taken with the front and back cameras and discovered that those taken from the front camera are only 1.2 megapixels when those taken using the rear camera are 8 megapixels and that would explain the difference in quality. But I don't know if this is what it should be or my iPhone has some sort of fault...?

I've looked at the Apple iPhone specs for the iPhone 6 and from what I can see, there is an 8-megapixel iSight camera (which I'm guessing is the rear camera) and a FaceTime HD 1.2-megapixel camera which must be the front camera.

So is this correct, that the front camera will only take 1.2 megapixel photos?

Why do you doubt Apple's own published specs? Why do you think anyone here (other iPhone users such as yourself) would know more about the iPhone than what Apple says?

The front camera is fixed focus (no autofocus like the rear) and lacks image stabilization. Photos can't be as sharp as the rear camera. It's meant for FaceTime video, with a close focus range, and which doesn't need as much resolution as for photos
