Table and chart for employee work hours vs. fixed work hours

Hi all:

I'm pretty adept to Numbers (currently running 3.2.2), but I'm stymied on this; I am trying to complete a table and chart that outlines an employee's timesheet (e.g. actual time in/out versus fixed open/closed work hours). Does anyone know an appropriate chart that would reflect the constant open/close hours and the actual time in and time out of the employee? Also, any direction on how to execute the table-to-chart procedure?

Also, I know how to alter the steps for the Y axis, but not the value "range". Any thoughts on that as well?

Cheers,

Hadley

Hi Hadley,

I used a table with column A as a Header Column and Row 1 as a Header Row.

Select all columns and insert a Line graph

To change the value range for Y, click in the Max and Min boxes and type a time. I used 5:00am and 9:00pm (no spaces).

If you want the In and Out lines on top of the Open and Close lines, change the order of the columns in the table.

I removed the data points on the Open and Close lines by clicking on the graph then clicking on the series to select it.

Format Panel > Style > Data Symbol > None (I think it looks neater that way).

Regards,

Ian.

Hi Ian,

Thank you for taking the time to help me and go through all of that. I had a couple of questions/issues I'm running into. In the Axis Scale, it is set to Auto (which I know is default), but when I enter Axis Scale > Scale > Max of '5:00am' and hit enter, it puts a date in the field.

Also, my chart looks like this:

What am I doing wrong?

Hi Ian,

I'm almost there. Thanks to your direction, I have the Y axis range workable. Now that I've done so, my chart still looks a bit off from yours. What you originally have is EXACTLY what I'm aiming for, but I cannot see the graph with the actual line variables of Time In/Time Out (blue & green columns) nor can I get that beautifully horizontal Open Time/Closed Time lines like you have. Here is a snap of what I have thus far... Many thanks for your help! ~Hadley
