Brand new iphone 5c storage showing full.

I just received a new iphone 5c a couple days ago. Starting last night, I keep getting a pop up message that says storage is full. It prevents me from taking a video or picture or downloading an app. Under Settings it shows 0 bytes available. When I look at the details, everything listed only adds up to a few MBs. The phone is an 8GB phone. I have only downloaded two apps and have no music or picture or videos on the phone as it is new. I did download iOS 8.3 the other day and wander if this is the source of the problem. Thanks.

I do have data stored on iCloud but haven't downloaded it to the iphone. Over lunch I connected my phone to the computer and opened itunes. Immediately after I did this the storage issue went away and it now shows I have 4.7 GB free. I didn't do anything to the phone within itunes, just plugged in the USB and opened itunes and it reset. Interesting. Thank you both for all your help.
