Merging people in Photo Faces

Hello, I'm currently setting up Faces for Photos. For some people, I've got two different contacts for the same person, how can I merge them in Photos ?

I do not have duplicates in the Contact app

Thank you

The comment that makes no sense is

I tried to change names, but all it did was bring up the video

Which as stated makes no sense and your comment makes no sense related to the discussion and since this thread is way out of date and two major upgrades have been released since its last relevant post to get help you need to start a new thread with your personal system details and your issue -- Writing an effective Apple Support Communities question

His/her post makes perfect sense. I have the latest macOS and Photos and have the exact same issue. When I start to type a name for a contact, I'm offered one to three names, which are all the same name, one will be not linked to a contact card, as described in ..de..cay's response, and another will be linked to a contact card. Often, there will be a third, which lists the same email address but has a different photo.

Edit: I've realized the third contact is usually an @facebook contact for the same person.

E.g., I'll be given a list of three choices, like this:

[person's face] John Randomname

[same person's face in a different photo] John Randomname johnrandomname@domainname.com

[same person's face in yet another photo] John Randomname johnrandomname@facebook.com

nfkb - I had the same problem but it's easy to fix. Check here:

Also, I had trouble clicking on the names when you're on the main Faces page - sometimes I would click on a name, it would highlight briefly, then it would deselect before I had time to type in a new name. If you have a similar problem, double-click on the face you want to bring that face's page up, and then click on the name in the upper left corner - you'll be presented with a text box where you can easily type in the correct contact name, at which point the "correct name" and "contact record" become one, under the contact record's name. 🙂

Following ..de..cay's advice above works for merging two of the names and I highly recommend going through and doing this for each contact you care about:

Unfortunately, if you are logged into facebook via "Internet Accounts" in System Preferences, any contacts who also have a facebook profile will show up as an additional option. I have not found a way to remedy this. I tried adding the person's facebook profile or facebook email on their contact card as either a "profile" set to "facebook" or as an additional email and neither solved the issue.

It looks like with the current version of Photos, you will always at least be shown two options for people who have both a contact card and a facebook profile (that you're friends with on facebook).
