2015 Retina Macbook Screen Flicker

My new Retina Macbook screen flickers intermittently throughout the day. I haven't be able to peg it to any specific software or use situation and resetting the PRAM doesn't seem to help.

Anyone else experience this? If it's just a new product firmware problem, I'll just wait, but if it's possible it's hardware, I'd obviously like to get it addressed.

Exactly the same problem. It occurs When I try to log in. 1 week old mbpro (bought on feb-2017). 😟

Is it a hardware or software problem?

What to do ? Shoul I Wait on a software update or bring it to Apple store back ?

Thanks.

I did clean install and I have same problem still but a little bit better .

It happens/flickering now only while the Apple logo is showing when Mac OS is starting up.

Problem repeats only when I turn the "Automatic graphics switching" on in Energy saver. If I turn off this option, then there are no problems.

I think a software update should solve this problem for my case.

I can say Clean install helped.

MacBookPro Retina 15" mid 2015 El Capitan 10.11.4

Hour of screen flicker madness.

Screen blacked out, then white with vertical lines one side, then flickering.

Flickering high frequency - nearly unusable but not as mad as the video posted by Randyexplozion (page 4 of this thread) - this flickering is too high freq to catch on video.

Second display (Dell) connected operates normally. At some point after plugging in the second display the MBP screen has come back and eventually flickering has now stopped. All well for now!

longtime lurker in this thread. i just installed sierra 10.12.3 on my mid-2015 15-inch pro and it appears to have solved the issue for me. the screen used to flicker every single time the machine switched between integrated and dedicated graphics, but now everything functions smoothly. just glanced at the changelog for the update and it says...

This update:

Improves automatic graphics switching on MacBook Pro (15-inch, October 2016)

it seems to have done the trick for my 2015 model. hope it's as easy a fix for everyone else!

Hi everybody,

I have the same problem with screen flickering, but only when activated/connected with the wifi. When I use normally at work connected with ethernet cable via Thunderbolt no problem at all. This time on apple genius (after all software test OK) they decided to change the screen/monitor... but nothing happens, I try with a new partition disk installing a clean mac sierra too... the flickering still there. The genius guys suggest this time, to try to change the wi-fi card, but after have seen this post I don't believe anymore.

Now I'm out of warranty but I think imho this is a hardware issue. The only way is to get a new MBP and hope.

My long story with MBP...

I haven't see the problem of flickering before. First problem with MBP was that the mac screen wasn't came up (remain black, I see only the keyboard light). I brougtht my MBP on the apple genius. So the first time they change me the logic card

thank's all of u.

Hello,

Even in 2017 Apple didn't seem to fix this issue!

In 1st day of use, my new 2017 Macbook Pro 13", with 3.5ghz i7, 16 gb ram and 512 gb ssd with latest mac os 10.12.6 shows the same problem of screen flickering.

Had a call with apple and tried all the solutions like resetting SMC/ NVRAM etc. Later I was made to reinstall entire OS with recovery utility. Even did that. Issue of intermittent screen flickering still persists. One funny thing I noted is that whenever I move the cursor using trackpad flickering stops and then again starts. While typing of keyboard flickering persists.

Also when I see youtube video without fullscreen mode, rest of the white portion of screen doesn't flicker. But as soon as the video ends, flickering starts.

So when video is On or when I move the cursor the flickering stops and then it starts again even after all the resets and reinstallation of OS as well.

Hope Apple hears this and help all the affected users. Fortunately since it is just 2-3 days for me, my macbook should be covered under warranty.
