Iphone 6: music starts playing by itself

Hi,

It started after update to iOS 8.3. Music on iPhone will start paying by itself when the iPhone is locked. I had it happened multiple times and can not figure it out what's causing it. Last time it was in my pocket at work and all of a sudden it started blaring out of my pocket during the meeting. It was quite embarasing.

Any suggestion how to stop this is greatly appreciated.

This is happening on my new iPad and my iPhone 7. Music and Audible come on by themselves after I have closed out of all apps. I am trying to play Netflix or similar. I can't get anything to play or turn off music. I have had to trash Audible to get it to stop. I have to use bluetooth to play my movie apps. We should not be losing control of our devices like this.

I found that the issue started for me once I received smart watch that I use to control my music occasionally. If my Bluetooth is off or the watch isn't connected then the issue doesn't occur.

Perhaps others might have a similar connected device that might be causing the issue. To note, when I check on the watch, the display for controlling music isn't actually showing so I don't think it is a case of accidentally pressing the buttons.

I'm replying here to underscore the same issue, which started occurring after I downloaded and installed iOS 11 on my iPhone 6. This irritating intrusion happens whether or not a earbuds are inserted, and whether or not a power cord is attached. And like several others who have posted to this string, there are no music apps or websites in the background to explain why songs start randomly playing. Very annoying behavior.

How about a real answer on this please? My phone will start up any music app at random. I have tested it with Bluetooth off, wifi off, silent mode on, all applications closed, on a fresh reboot, every other possible way. When it's in airplane mode it will randomly blast local music. Any other time it will pick either iHeartRadio or Pandora at a random time and start blasting music. This is ridiculously annoying and inconvenient and there are clearly a lot of people having this issue yet not a single answer as to what is causing this or a solution to the problem.

I don't think it has to do with the OS update, but something with the app itself, and maybe connected devices. I see a bunch of people having this issue, but all of them seem to be iPhones. I am having the same issue using Apple Music through my Droid Turbo 2, and it is extremely obnoxious. I am about ready to just uninstall the app. Has there been any useful answer, yet? Even just "hey, we hear you and we are working on it would be reassuring".

Yes, this is really infuriating. In my case, the iPhone will start playing audiobooks from iBooks when I plug in headphones or connect to the bluetooth in my car. (Once when I wasn't even in the car!) This is with the iBooks app completely closed, not running in the background, and even when the most recent thing the phone has played is music from iTunes. I can't understand how it's playing audio from an app that's not running, and if it's going to randomly play audio, why it wouldn't resume playing the last thing played on the phone. So incredibly bizarre.

***THREAD HAS BEEN OPEN 2 1/2 YEARS. ANSWER THE QUESTION ALREADY, APPLE SUPPORT!!!***

TFW When your iPad randomly blasts the first song from the first band listed alphabetically in your library at work and the office was otherwise quiet so literally everyone hears it. Oh btw, it was ABBA “Take a chance on me.”

I have no solution to offer but here we are on 12/12/17 still wondering *** is going on.

Update: the source of why my music plays by itself is my headphones! If I move the headphone jack a certain way the music starts playing on its own. If I jiggle it a little again then the song will pause. Note I'm not talking about the volume controls that are part of the wire that leads to the right headphone. I'm talking about the male end of the phone jack that you plug into the device. This is so weird!

My iphoneX running iOS 11.2.1 starts playing last-played Music app selection by itself, when coming in range of Bluetooth Soundfreaq Sound Platform 2 speakers. No headset or AirPods.

It’s repeatable but does not happen every time. It’s repeatable enough that an Apple engineer could reproduce it. Bluetooth proximity seems important.

Hello there borisser,

It sounds like your music for some reason starts playing on its own, randomly. That seems like some software in the background is causing it to start, so I would quit all the running apps on the device and then test that out for a bit.

iOS: Force an app to close

Double-click the Home button.

Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.

Swipe the app up to close it.

When you have done that restart the device and test the issue again:

iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

Could you clarify what kind of software running in the background would possess the ability to start auto-playing Apple Music on its own? I'm experiencing the same issue on my iPhone 5C, where Apple Music will just start playing on its own. My phone has been sitting next to me on my desk for the last two hours, and it just started suddenly playing music. Wasn't touching it, and wasn't in my pocket, so can't blame it on errant button press. And I checked apps running in the background, which was limited to just a few, including Safari, Outlook, Instagram, and a weather app. I don't think any of these would have the permissions necessary to start auto-playing music.

Your suggestion doesn't fix the issue because it has nothing to do with background apps. My phone starts playing music even if I have completely restarted the phone and have not used it again since turning it back on. The music which it was playing was not even on my phone as I tried deleting all of my music and was under the impression (since the phone told me) that I could only play music over wi-fi (which I have turned off). Somehow it set itself up to play music using my mobile data so not only is it wasting my battery because I have to keep my phone muted to avoid embarrassment and don't realise this is happening immediately, but it is also costing me money. I think that this has to do with the annoying voice control which often also switches itself on, talks to itself for a while and then decides to play music even when no one responds.
