Apple Watch won't re-pair with iPhone 6

We went on vacation for a week and did not take the Apple Watch. When we returned home, the Watch was no longer paired with the iPhone 6 Plus.

-rebooted both the watch, the phone and even the wifi in the house several times.

-removed the otter box from the phone.

-checked Bluetooth on the phone. Checked Bluetooth on the watch (the watch is stuck in SEARCHING).

-the watch keeps asking for the passcode. An error message pops up occasionally, stating iCloud password needs to be entered on phone. Did multiple times - phone shows connected with iCloud. Last time, phone stated there was an error at the Apple server - password could not be verified. Apple ID and iCloud are connected on phone.

-synced the phone with iTunes. 3 GB of free space on phone.

-no "i" icon on watch to do it manually. Watch not listed as available to connect on phone.

-attempted in several rooms - no other Bluetooth items near the devices.

-phone does not see watch at all in pair mode.

-tried with charger on and charger off the watch.

-both seem to be operating correctly...they just won't pair.

-no new updates to the phone since the two were paired

I am getting annoying email message " This message has not been downloaded from server". Contacted Apple by chat and was advised to reset my iPhone. This did not correct the email problem and caused the communication problem with Apple Watch. I followed instructions by Dieds and my Apple Watch is back to normal. FYI-the email message problem is stilled unresolved by Apple and will be handled as part of next iOS update.

This happened to me yesterday. The red iPhone symbol appeared at the top of the watch and would not reconnect to the iPhone.

1) Unpaired/deleted the Apple Watch from my iPhone's Bluetooth setting.

2) Reset the Apple Watch under settings (on the watch)

3) Going through setting up the watch again, after selecting Language, I was prompted to select as "new" or "restore from backup".

4) I restored from backup and after several minutes the Problem was solved.

Unfortunate and hopefully this does not continue to happen. Future bug fix pending I assume.

Unfortunately, those were not the appropriate steps to take.

When your watch face shows a red phone symbol with a line through it, this means that your Apple Watch has become temporarily disconnected from your iPhone:

Disconnections are normal and will happen - for example - whenever the devices are taken out of range of each other. After they next disconnect, if they do not reconnect automatically a short while after being brought close together again, follow these steps - checking your watch after each one - until they do:

- Check that Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are both enabled on your iPhone and that your devices are close by each other.

- Check that you have not enabled Airplane Mode on your watch (see step 4 for how to check this).

- Disable and re-enable Bluetooth on your iPhone: (Settings > Bluetooth).

- Enable and disable Airplane Mode on your watch: Swipe up on the watch face > Swipe sideways to the Settings glance > Tap the airplane icon to enable Airplane Mode (turns off Bluetooth & Wi-Fi) > Wait for a short while > Tap the icon again to disable Airplane Mode (enables Bluetooth and Wi-Fi) > Connected should appear on the screen.

- Restart both devices, turn both off first, then restart your iPhone before restarting your watch (to turn your watch off: press and hold the side button, then drag the Power Off slider. To turn it on: press and hold the side button until the logo appears).

For the best performance from your watch, keep both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth permanently enabled on your iPhone.
