Is Canon Optura 30 compatable with iMovie HD?

Help! I have an Optura 30 camcorder which iMovie HD (6.0.3) does not recognize as being attached to my iMac, via firewire. The exact same camera and cable is recognized on my Powerbook G4 which is running iMovie 4.0.1. Does anyone know if the Optura is not compatible with iMovie HD? This would such if it were the case, eh? Any help is appreciated.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.4.8)

It is compatible. iMovie 6 still works with Firewire connected mini DV camcorders, just like iM 4.

Something else is going on. Does the iMac recognize the camcorder in its System Profiler?

Howdy! Thanks for weighing in ... No, the profiler doesn't recognize that the Optura is plugged in. Any thoughts?

Can you connect a different device to that same firewire port and check if the Profiler sees it?

Canons are a bit "picky"...
connect direct to your Mac, no "hub", no daisy chaining, no other devices on firewire (e.g. ext. harddrive...)

and try different routines:
launch iM first, then switch on Canon...
or..
switch Canon on, then launch iM....
or
some recommend
push play manually at Canon, then hit import at iM.. (needes once fo recognizing cam, then all remote controls should be operable...)

last advice, to "reset" iM:
quit iM
search in user/library/preferences for
com.apple.iMovie.plist
or
com.apple.iMovie3.plist
drag (both) into trash bin, launch iM again..............

Well, it now accidentally works! I fiddled and twiddled with the cable, camera, atc, and now it is working consistently. Curious. I think I will purchase a new cable, just in acse there is some sort of microscopic problem. Thanks to all who offered ideas to resolve this. I appreciate it! The Mac community is the best!
