How can I connect iPad Air 2 to USB flash drive so I can transfer files back and forth

I would like to connect my iPad Air 2 to USB flash drive so I can transfer files back and forth. I don't want to use the Icloud or Dropbox, and don't want to use Itunes because don't want to depend on a PC to transfer files.

So far, I have tried some methods, but nothing worked.

Thank you

Sorry, but that simply is not a feature of iOS and iDevices. There are limited capabilities for using a USB flash drive for photos and videos but not for general or generic file transfers. Your best options are indeed cloud based services like iCloud, Dropbox, box and so on If you do not want to sync material with a computer. Along with iCloud I use Dropbox and box and their apps and app integration are actually very good in my opinion. Box.net gives, or used to give, free 50GB of space for iOS users.
