Everytime I try to connect to the store a statement comes up that says "Unable to connet to the internet. Make sure your network connection is active and try again". I've e-mailed itunes several times and done all the things they have suggested...nothing works. I'm able to connect to all other websites....so I don't think it's an BT problem. I've disabled all my firewalls. Apple says nothing can be done. Itunes says nothing can be done. BT says it's a problem with itunes. Does anyone have any advice. I was able to connect to itunes for about 5 months and all of a sudden the error message came up. I have upgraded to the new itunes. I hope someone out there can help me. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have Norton Internet Security 2005 and have not had problems except with CDDB with a proxy server.

Assuming you are using the Norton forewall, but something should work with other firewalls.
As suggested, try turning off NIS briefly and see if you can connect then. If you can try the following:

Make sure you have all updates.
Go in to the firewall settings - configure programs.

Delete references to itunes and quicktime. You may find them listed under Apple.
Restart the computer.
Then go into the firewall and manually configure these programs:

In Program Files\iTunes - iTunes.exe and iTunesHelper.exe
In Program Files\Quicktime - QuicktimePlayer.exe, qttask.exe and QTInfo.exe.

In fact for me the automatic configuration worked fine, but doing it manually seems to have worked for some people.

Another thing that can cause connectivity problems, go into Internet Explorer Tools>Internet Options>Connextions>LAN Settings and make sure that "Automatically detect settings" is checked.

Hi, Have tried all of those and still no joy - run diagnostics - Windows Firewall is off.

Connection attempt to Apple web site was unsuccessful.
The network connection was refused.
Connection attempt to iTunes Store was unsuccessful.
The network connection was refused.
Secure connection attempt to iTunes Store was unsuccessful.
The network connection was refused.
My firewall is always off as it's managed by group policy.

I hope you are using a firewall. Just becuase the Windows firewall is off doesn't mean you don't have one.

You need to say more about your configuration. Are you at work with a computer department managing your connection?

If at home, do you have some other internet security product, you mentioned Norton, or are you relying on a router?

Relying on a router may be OK for preventing things coming in, but it doess't monitor outgoing connections like the Norton firewall or Zonealarm.
