Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

Why is my Mac running so slow?

Ever since I upgraded to Yosemite, my mac has been performing more poorly. It's slow on the internet and when I use Logic Pro X I get more frequent prompts such as "System running slow or CPU overload" I don't have much stored on my mac in the way of photos or videos. So it shouldn't be a memory issue.

I'm trying to learn how to keep my mac happier, and the ins and outs of computers in general. Any advice that anyone can offer on how I can augment my mac's performance on my own would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Joseph

I ran the EtreCheck. Here's the diagnosis.

Problem description:

Ever since the yosemite upgrade my mac has been running very slowly. It’s slow on the internet and when I’m running logic pro X especially. “System running slow or CPU overload” prompt always comes up.

- Remove the identified Adware

Adware: ℹ️

Downlite, VSearch, Conduit, Trovi, MyBrand, Search ProtectAdware! [Click to remove]

Click on the link in your AdMedic results

- Remove Sophos. It is not needed.

http://www.sophos.com/en-us/support/knowledgebase/120838.aspx

- Upgrading memory will help. 4 GB is marginal

http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Apple_MacBook_MacBook_Pro/Upgrade/DDR3_160 0MHz_SDRAMhttp://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Apple_MacBook_MacBook_Pro/Upgrade/DDR3_160 0MHz_SDRAM

- delete unneeded items from your hard rive since you only have 10% free space and that is the minimum. Replacing the HD with a SSD will also help
