Music home sharing no longer available after ios 8.4 update?

I have been searching for a way to access my home music library from music after completing the ios 8.4 update. Any way to connect now? The option seems to be missing.

iPad 2, iOS 8.4

I have been looking for this as well, looks like Apple may have taken this out with 8.4 which would be very upsetting and I probably wouldn't have updated older devices if I had known that as we use home sharing in the house all the time, or at least we did 😟 Hoping I am just missing it and someone will point me in the right direction

The saddest thing here is that Apple doesn't even need to worry about all of us complaining here or in any other forum. This is a well calculated move from their end and they know that even if they lose thousands of customers who cared about their home libraries, it will be far outweighed by the millions who don't care about their own music all that much and will sign up for Apple Music no matter what. Let's face it - we are the minority in this case and Apple knows it. Maybe it's time to return to the iPod classic or buy a cheap Android/Windows phone with 128 GB memory card and store all of our music there...

ddrucker,

if you are having problems with the sorting of music in other server environments outside of iTunes, then I personally suspect you have always allowed iTunes to handle your metadata instead of using something free and under your control to make sure all the tags meet your requirements., e.g.mp3tag.

There are countless server programs to run on computers in addition to Plex. Many are free, some like Plex have minor fees associated with them. There are multiple ways to skin a cat. Sadly too many have been blinkered by what was being provided by iTunes for years to look outside of the Apple environment.

It would be rude of me to list those items here as while not directly competitors of Apple or their Apps, it isn't the right environment to discuss alternatives. If you are a true audiophile I am sure you can find suggestions at forums more suitable than here.

Anyways, as disturbing as the deletion from iOS 8.4 is, i am still reasonably optimistic that this is a merely temporary problem. If they had intended to disable it completely, the latest iTunes update wouldn't have retained to ability to enable "home sharing", would it?

That's a bit misleading. Plex Media Server for your PC/Mac is free, there is also a paid tier -- but you don't need it to stream on your home network. There's an option to add your iTunes library to your Plex library as a dedicated channel. If you have more than 1 PC/Mac with stuff you want to share, that'll work too -- just install Plex Media Server. Very easy to install and configure. The iOS Plex app that'll let you stream from your Plex media library to your iOS device is $5.

Really disappointed this has been removed.

Neither Apple Music or iTunes Match do what I need here - to share content with my Family. Home Sharing on the local network is something we use and love, but it would also be nice if iTunes Match got upgraded to the new 100k limit with IOS9 _and_ we could share that content with our Family via iCloud. Also disturbing to hear that DRM-free content managed by iTunes Match is silently being overwritten with DRM Apple Music copies - so if you have both and then cancel your Apple Music subscription...

Homesharing is still available in ITunes 12 because it's needed for Apple TV. But I guess with the new Apple TV in automn Homesharing will also be cancelled with Apple TV and ITunes. Apple wants to force their customers to use Apple Music and of course pay for it.

If this becomes true I don't use ITunes anymore, only Spotify with streaming with Airplay.

The loss of Home Share is the straw that broke the camel's back. I am done with Apple/iPhone. It is absolutely ridiculous to remove the feature. If you can't code for it, or can't code 'small' enough for it, hire better developers.

Tired of this crap. You're supposed to be above pulling stunts like this.

Bye then... 😢

i will wager not enough people were spending money on extra iCloud storage...taking away this sharing option will force people to buy storage.

thats my guess.

the new iTunes is pretty lame. i love iTunes. but the UI is cluttered and is forcing us to have elements i will never access.

beats = garbage

genius = not for me

itunes radio = not interested [doesnt have the music i listen to]

album art is all gone, not terrible, but kind of a bummer as they have this HUGE field for it now, that just shows a crappy graphic quarter note.

parts of the UI are so small, like shuffle. and you can't really tell if its enabled. light gray is on? i can barely see it
