Music home sharing no longer available after ios 8.4 update?

I have been searching for a way to access my home music library from music after completing the ios 8.4 update. Any way to connect now? The option seems to be missing.

I have been looking for this as well, looks like Apple may have taken this out with 8.4 which would be very upsetting and I probably wouldn't have updated older devices if I had known that as we use home sharing in the house all the time, or at least we did 😟 Hoping I am just missing it and someone will point me in the right direction

ya did that already. helped some, but now Genius is forced on you, can't turn that off. Radio is forced on you, can't turn that off.

there was the option to setup your own UI for better access. that choice is now gone.

[shuffle on/off is so light on the phone its hard to tell how you have it set]

the previous UI had access to your lists all the time while in the library. Now its only at the top of the list. should you want to change from ARTISTS to ALBUMS you have to scroll back to the top of the list. poor design.

its unfortunate you can't turn off stupid responses like yours either.

Genius and Radio have been there long before iOS 8.4, they didn't just appear with the update.

If you tap the top of the Music app, you can scroll to the top instantly to change from Artists to Albums. Yay -- problem solved 😮

NO REALLY. no shillz dummy.

but you could hide them. i guess you don't understand the images i put up.

and yes you can quickly scroll to the top of the list. yours must be very short. INCONVENIENT if your list os 3000 tracks and you are at the bottom of the list.

think before you write. i know these features are there. they are just poorly implemented. I've done UI development, that is why I'm making these comments.

its about user satisfaction and accessibility. the fewer clicks the better. especially with all the idiots that are compelled to use apps on their phones while driving.

eliminate clicks -> enhance experience. [save lives 😉...thats another discussion. disable features while cars are running]

this UI is a step in the wrong direction. its NICE looking. but functionally inhibiting. the options were better before.

don't get me wrong...itunes has been my player of choice since inception. they just drop the ball sometimes. and this is one of those times.

it will get sorted I'm certain of that. but if no one says anything, it won't get fixed.

so rather than be a pinhead, look for better solutions and don't always accept whats given as right.

thats said...they HAVE made many brilliant choices. again...not this time.

Much as I love PLEX (and I just watched an episode of a TV show streaming to it on my iPad ), it is almost useless for a large library of iTunes Classical music. You can't sort by Composer, or see groupings, or deal with a library of much more than 1,000 tracks.. PLEX is totally awesome for video as it plays (and streams), just about anything on anything, (even outside the home, if you buy a Plex Pass), but it can't even begin to replace Home Sharing in iTunes, or won't be able to until they understand how to read iTunes' metadata better or deal with a library with 27,000+ tracks in it like mine.

nor simple at all when one's iTunes library exceeds he size of the largest iPad or iPhone.

llibrary sharing was an important feature enabling a iPad or iPhone to scale up to the size of an iTunes library. In essence it is our music which we have paid for. eliminating this feature has significantly reduced the usability of the Music app, our iPad or iPhone as well as our own investments in our music libraries.

I Turned off auto update on my Apple TV in case they remove it there in the future. Although I assume may have to freeze itunes on the pc to for infinity if hey decide to remove it from everywhere like videos.

ONe main thing I use my iPad for is with the remote app to play my music on my Apple TV without having to use the menus thru my tv. I only bought the Apple TV to play my itiunes library on my main receiver and speakers. The iPad remote app interface with a nice touch and visual album art interface is so much better than using the Apple TV remote to have to click and scroll and search for my music. Removing the remote app makes the Apple TV almost useless to me. I only use it to play my music I don't care about any streaming services. I get them all on my TiVo and blue ray player apps. With the painful interface with the atv remote its not worth it. ill sell the atv and switch to some other network music player.

I replied to your post thanking you for your advice.

Apple removed because my criticism of Apple's decision to remove Home Sharing was seen as a "rant" which breached their community guidelines.

I have been warned that I can only post here if I ask for technical help. If I do not do this then my account could be suspended. :-(

I therefore formally ask you the technical question whether there is any way to circumvent the disabling of Home Sharing and find another way to stream my content over WIFI. For example, are there any third party products that I could use to stream my iTunes library over my local WIFI system?

This is a TECHNICAL request and should NOT be CENSORED by an Apple Moderator.

Since home sharing to iOS is still working on pre iOS 8.4 devices then you could either downgrade your device or find a device that hasn't or can't be upgraded.

I have an old iPod touch on 5.1.1, it can't go any higher and home sharing still works. It however has a 30pin connector but you can get adaptors.

If you search for downgrading or for an old ipod touch it may be a solution.

Another solution depending on your setup may be to buy an Apple TV. It won't follow you around however.

I stream cd ripped Apple lossless music to my amp and speakers via an Apple TV. The higher quality of the lossless over streamed compressed files is important to me therefore I have switched all auto updating to off.

You should re-read through the topic. There are some great 3rd party options, and they've been discussed extensively already. Try the search function, it's a really convenient way to find stuff -- you just have to use it.
