Airplay icon dissapears when I play Beats 1 in iTunes 12.2

NPR does the same thing: no ability to stream to an Airport Express within iTunes. I suspect it is a licensing issue beyond Apple's control.

The way to AirPlay Beats 1 to an Airport Express of Apple TV:

Hold down your option key while clicking the Apple Manu Bar Volume control or the Sound System Preference and you can see your Airplay options for Mac audio output.

Now I've got trawl through you complaining about people confirming the issue.

Thanks for posting this. I knew that i could stream the system sound to a single airplay speaker...

but my problem is that only iTunes can select multiple speakers (apart from 3rd party software) and this is what i liked... as i also was able to control the volume for all the 5 Airplay speaks comfortably from one app...

hope this is just a bug and will be fixed soon and not a legal issue...

and btw, i think it is absolutely worth posting that you can confirm the issue... as more and more people seem to experience the same problem, it becomes obvious that it is a system side bug not a single isolated issue... i personally find it most of the times pleasing to know that it is not me or my mac only... because the chances of a fix are much higher... 😉

What a cool "trick", I had no idea I could do that with the menubar Sound icon!

Unbelievable, same issue here. Unfortunately the fix, to play though single speaker, is a bodge.

Apple, I need a proper fix, to play though all my home speakers.

I am also facing the same issue here, however the most annoying part is that there is no resolution on it. If this is the legal issue than why it is permissible from iOS devices (iPhone / iPad) and not the Mac. Would be interested to know the reason and a fix as would love to play this on multiple speakers in the house.

Because Apple never release explanations about anything. Apple never answer. Maybe the problem with the Airplay icon it's only a problem on Macs (desktops) And Apple don't care about Macs anymore. They sell phones, mp3 players, watches an music.

No, it's not just macs. It' iTunes. It does it on Windows computers running iTunes also.

I was hoping this issue would be resolved with iTunes 12.2.1 that was just released. Still not working for me on my Mac. Play anything from my library or a station from iTunes radio and airplay button is visible yet as soon as I change to beats 1, airplay button disappears. Of course like everyone else works fine from my iPad or iPhones via airplay, just not my Mac. in case it helps, I'm currently running 10.10.4 on an iMac.

Hopefully Apple will fix soon, otherwise beats 1 is a bit useless to me.

Yes, me too, I downloaded iTunes 12.12.1 expecting it to be fixed and I am also running El Capitan but it is still the same

I could understand it if it is a legal issue but why does it work on the iPad/iPhone? Strange, it is still a mystery.

I'm thinking it is a "re-broadcasting" issue. With an iOS device you can only Airplay to one device at a time. On a Mac or PC running iTunes you could essentially re-broadcast the stream multiple times on different devices.

Same issue here. Using El Capitan. Regular music can be airplayed, but Beats 1 cannot. Airplay comes back when playing regular library, but disappears when Beats 1 starts. Using AirFoil as a work around. This needs to be fixed!
