Playlists and music are not syncing (can't add any music to my iPhone now)

I've been having a lot of trouble with Apple Music! I have a pretty large iTunes library (25k) and have been using iTunes Match. At first things seemed okay on my iPhone 6. I added a couple of albums and it was good.

Then I got iTunes 12.2 and the music I added from Apple Music showed up greyed out. Nothing I did seemed to make those songs want to become available. I saw someone posted to delete the songs from the iPhone library and then add them using your Mac and then it would show up on both. No dice. I toggled Music on and off and had it re-download my music library to my iPhone. I still can't see the albums I added on my Mac (and which are clearly in my Mac library).

Now I can't add anything to my iPhone library. When I browse for an album not on my iPhone and click the "Add to My Music" button, it says okay, does the check mark thing, and then a few seconds later the icon switches back from a checkmark to a plus sign.

Basically I can't add music to my iPhone at all because I can't sync it to my computer (since now it syncs only through Apple Music), it isn't syncing changes from my Mac to my iPhone, and I can't add anything from Apple Music to my iPhone. Help!

iPhone 6, iOS 8.4

This did not totally help as I still have problems.

HOWEVER, what you said about Apple is spot on - if they carry on like this then they will have no customers left!!!

I am fed up of:

Apple Music being forced on me constantly

Apple deciding to play my songs from the Cloud

Apple ripping me off by making me think I needed to purchase songs I had already paid for by deleting them from my playlist

iTunes playlist deciding the order of music for me

etc etc etc

Apple you're dead to me!!!

I don't have Apple Music or iTunes match, I don't have Genius playlists or whatever it is and I don't have icloud music turned on (the option isn't even available) yet certain albums that I ripped from CD using itunes will not sync to my iphone 6 plus... this has taken up way too much time.

I have no idea what else to do

If you don't have any of the Apple Music or iTunes Match services turned on EITHER your computer's iTunes or your iPhone 6, then the probably reason that your own tracks ripped from a CD is either the format you used or the size/bitrate of the files themselves.

Found this webpage that lists the various file formats and bitrates that are supported by iPhones. Now, whether that list is up to date is another question.

This didn't work either for me. When I view my music the recently added list is at the top of the page, I've got it set to 6 months, I thought this was the recently added playlist, but if I select the actual recently added playlist in the left navigation pane it shows the playlist with the 3 dots next to play and shuffle as you suggest, but there are only 12 tracks in the playlist, an album with 8 tracks and 4 singles, whereas on the home page of my music the recently added content from the last 6 months has several albums and the singles. Why isn't this consistent for one, but secondly, the options under the 3 dots don't contain add to device when the device is connected over wifi. So I connected the iPhone via USB incase the menu under the 3 dots changed but it didn't, it still has the 4 options

Add to Playlist

Play Next

Add to Up Next

So I'm still at a loss. And I've never subscribed to Apple Music or iTunes match, I use iCloud only for allowing downloaded content for my music library that is not on my phone, but I don't really need to and my iCloud storage doesn't show that any music is using any space, I'm only using the standard 5GB of free storage and 4.7GB of that is taken up with iPhoto sync, the rest is numbers, pages and stuff like that, but not music.

Whatever has changed recently in iTunes 12.3 or 12.2 or iOS, it's completely screwed my iPhone for playing music as hardly any of the tracks I thought were on there and are checked songs and playlists under the device in iTunes are on there, and the sync's won't complete any more either, it's just totally screwed. Apple should have put an in your face pop up message or something saying if you want to continue using iTunes like you did before you must do this.

I detailed my issues further in this thread last night. So I'm still searching for a resolution.

Sync issues iPhone iOS 9.2 with iTunes 12.3 ElCap 10.11.2

I agree, i was trying to sync only 3 songs, if i turn off my iCloud Music Library i have to redownload almost 600 songs to offline again.. I had issues with apple music, when i upgraded my ios to 9.2, all of my saved to offline song was gone then i have to redownload them, then after 2 weeks i dunno what happened when i opened my apple music all my music offline was gone "AGAIN" i was like wth, they wanted me to waste my data redownloading for offline. So for now i decided not to turn off iCloud music library just for the 3 songs 😐 i wish they have the song that i wanted to sync but can't find them on apple music

Hi

I have just come across this thread as I think it relates to my problems and without reading through every page Im unsure if there is a solution or not.

Basically before I signed up to Apple Music I just had purchased iTunes albums and CD rips that I transferred to my iTunes library and then automatically synced everything when I connected my iPod touch to my laptop.

When I started the Apple music trial I noticed that music was not syncing when my iPod was connected, I looked under the device settings within iTunes and noticed the sync settings no longer stated "sync entire music library" but was replaced with "iCloud music library on".

If I turn this off I can sync my own music as before, but doing so deletes any Apple music I have saved for offline listening, it also stops me saving playlists and so on.

Is there a easy fix without turning iCloud library off?

side note/ with it on Apple seems to screw with some of my own cd rips album artwork!!!

thanks

Was having same problem with OSX 10.11.2 and iOS 9.2 (Playlists was out of sync on devices)

Found fix for syncing iCloud stored playlists between iPhone and MacBook: Click 'Like' button for playlist, after few seconds, if playlist audio files were stored at device, only missing tracks will be downloaded.

Indeed, that's not user-friendly experience for now, and I personally hope that bug will be fixed with next patch (iOS or OSX)

Not sure where the Like button is. On my Mac iTunes is it the heart icon within the playlist? I tried that and it didn't sync the playlist.

wow - we're deep into ios9 and STILL having this problem. I don't use cloud or apple music or itunes match - but i can't get all the music on my playlist to show up. My playlist is 115 songs. When iphone is plugged into computer, it says iphone has 115 songs. When I look at playlist on iphone, it only lists 95! Got plenty of memory, all tracks are "checked".

Playlists and music are not syncing (can't add any music to my iPhone now)
