Blue Ball just under the cursor is spinning for no reason when using Facebook (not the app). Is there a fix for this? Seems to only happen when resting. If cursor is on a link then the cursor returns to normal.

Here's whats happening!

Facebook changed it's code and is now not handling web Browsers that are non-webkit compliant. Every Web Browser reports to a website what type of Browser is running and the website can chose what and how data is sent back. The ID for the Browser is called the UserAgent string. If your UserAgent string reports a Non-webkit Browser, you get served by Facebook a page with coding errors that shows a blue spinning wheel, ball or ring: inline cursor: pointer never removed from document Element, persistent cursor: progress. A little more info is here https://github.com/webcompat/web-bugs/issues/1331#issuecomment-118227563

Your Options!

You will have to wait for Facebook to fix it's code for Non-webkit compliant Browsers or

Use a webkit compliant Browser Safari, Chrome, Opera... or

wait for the Non-webkit Browsers to upgrade their Browsers code to be compliant or

Use a Workaround by spoofing you Browser UserAgent string to a webkit Compliant string.

There is a post on some temporary workarounds by changing the UserAgent string here:

I fixed it by adding these extensions from Mozilla -

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/user-agent-js-fixer/?src=search

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/uacontrol/

Once you have them go to tools/add-ons/extensions - then on the UAControl preferences add facebook (see pic) then paste this string, hit ok and restart firefox -

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/33.0.1750.166 Safari/537.36 OPR/20.0.1396.73172

Thank you for that. Very helpful.

Any idea on how to fix it on mobile devices? The spinner keeps going on the iPad in the Facebook app.

I use the UserAgent Switcher plugin on the FF browser so I can work around that issue easily enough. The mobile devices are piggy using THEIR apps!

I was going to come and put the idea out that this has to be a Facebook issue because of the iPad problems.

I stopped using Safari because it's just not as configurable as FF is. It also doesn't support some of the awesome plugins and there are cookies that you just can't get rid of. I delete them and they just come back in seconds.

Perfect. I did this NEW method from that Facebook page you referred to AND IT WORKS.

Firefox users - New method (Thanks Keith)

Install both of these Firefox Add-Ons
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/uacontrol/
https://addons.mozilla.org/…/fi…/addon/user-agent-js-fixer/…

Restart Firefox > Goto Tools > UAControl Options >
Add Site > Site: www.facebook.com > Select Custom > Paste this string into Custom

Thanks a lot.
