Wi-Fi not working on iOS 8.4

Hi,

I had problems on iOS 8.3 where Wi-Fi worked at the beginning, but then stopped. Sometimes iPhone 4S attempted to connect, I saw wifi icon and then it disappeared. I tried Reset Network Settings, I managed to setup Wi-Fi connection again, but it worked for a few minutes and then again the same issue.

I was hoping that the issue will be fixed on 8.4, but now it's worse. After resetting network settings I cannot even join wifi network. After entering password, it says "Unable to Join the network. I have correct password, because I'm using it for other devices.

I tried to restore iphone through iTunes, but I cannot do that, because I'm getting error message "Find My iPhone" must be turned off. The problem is that I cannot turn Find My iPhone off in iCloud settings on the device, because Wi-Fi is not working. Now I cannot restore iPhone and I cannot setup Wi-Fi.

Another issue is the fact that device may not have 8.4 installed. Although it reports version 8.4, the device didn't show locked screen after update, like it did on iPad. It seems that device only shows version ioS 8.4, but hasn't really been updated, otherwise I would see locked screen after restart.

Is there a way to force iOS 8.4 update again on the device?

How can I fix wi-fi problem? Wi-Fi scanning seems to be a little slow. On that page the device often freezes for 20 seconds or so. The quality of iOS and Mac OS X has gone down dramatically.

I have $800 iPhone 4S, which has the antenna problem and I don't think I want another Apple device, if I can get Android device with better spec than iPhone 6 for $200. Over 3 years I made around 50 calls with this device and I'm not using much. I'm just using password manager app and need wifi for sync and backup.

You know what, forget this, because no one is going to fix/revert wifi code back to what it was on 8.0 or older.

iOS 8.4 with broken wifi also drains battery. In 3 hours battery capacity dropped from 100% to 73% (loss of 27%).

I recommend users who experience wifi issue to completely disable wifi until Apple fixes the problem. It looks like device is occasionally scanning wifi networks while in sleep mode.

After you disable wifi, avoid enabling it again or even navigating to the wifi settings. The device may freeze. In that case you need to press and hold power button and home button at the same time. When the devices shuts down, power up again and don't try to change wifi setting, leave it off.

I think the device must be doing something on the background that causes high CPU usage, device slows down and after a few ore seconds it freezes completely. Clearly some multi-threaded deadlock in wifi or networking routines.

Are you serious? A suggestion was made to assist the OP in resolving the problem and you want to start a debate.

What you you done to resolve the issue yourself?

So you're not looking for assistance? You're posting here merely to rant.

Ok. Since you are not able to acknowledge the sentiment here let me explain it to you. Consumers have the right to expect working products from corporations. In the UK for example there are specific laws to this effect that supersede manufacturer’s warranties. When that does not occur consumers are left frustrated. We are entitled to be frustrated. I replaced a 5 with a 6. Why? Because the 'Genius' at the store told me that it was my Airport Extreme and sold me a new one - only that did not work and neither did 'switch it on and off', reboot, software updates, back-ups, new routers, etc. As has already been explained to you, we do not all live around the corner from an Apple store either.

If you are involved with Apple and I am guessing that you are, you know that there is an issue with the product. Because of the financial implication apple will not acknowledge it because that admission would mean that that they will could be held legally accountable.

In the software industry this type of rushed delivery often leads to lawsuits and not for $1 or a million - it is normally much larger than this and settled out of court to avoid publicity. Problem is, until this results in a class action lawsuit, apple like all other corporations will not acknowledge a problem because they are not going to be taken to court by a person that used his saving to buy his phone. Think about the tip sheet from your vehicle insurance - Never say you are sorry, never admit guilt...

The point? People have the right to expect a working product. Apple put themselves in the spotlight when they knocked Microsoft around 2005 with their upgrade adds and are now the ones with the unreliable product. The people on this tread are here not because they are bored and trolling, they are here because they had a working product, were told that 8.4 was needed to address security issues and now they have $nnn issues. This is wasting our time because Apple has apparently forgotten what a software test cycle looks like.

And by the way, you started the debate or did you just expect to make snide remarks and rely on everyone on here being to well mannered to take you to task?

I couldn't have summed it up any better. I have been experiencing slow wifi since ios 8 and now i'm unable to connect to the wifi in ios 8.4. I don't have much time to visit the genius bar since i go to work everyday and come home very late at night. I spent all of last night trying out various fixes but none of them seem to work. If anyone can suggest any fixes that would be great. Much appreciated.

It's not a random response. Very few individuals work long hours seven days per week.

Now, with your situation, I have no idea what can be done to fix your problem. Clearly you have an Apple product that is not functioning properly and it's not reasonable to expect Apple to fix it without you getting it to them. You wouldn't expect a car dealer to fix your car while it's in your garage.

HI,

Try erasing all content and settings via Settings -General-Reset-Erase all content and settings

Reinstall IOS 8.4 via connection to Computer through which you are able to sync to ITUNES; holding down the OFF and HOME buttons while you are in ITUNES.

Then, disconnect from ITUNES and turn off Location Services via Setting-Privacy.

Then, turn off the iPhone.

Then, turn on the IPhone, and turn back on Location Services

Turn off Find my iPhone.

Then, go to Wifi in Settings and try to reconnect to your network.

Leave Find my Iphone off

Hope this helps

I havd been having occasional wifi dropouts since IOS 8.0, on my iPad, but at least it was occasional. Wifi has been very slow, but I was able to tolerate that. Since I installed IOS 8.4, however, my wifi drops out constantly. Often it comes back on its own, but just as often I have to jump through a few hoops to get connected again. My daughter has not updated her iPad to 8.4 and is not having these wifi issues. That tells the tale right there doesn't it!?

I have refrained from updating my MacBook Pro from Mavericks, because I have heard of so many issues with Yosemite, and the wifi connection on that has remained speedy and constant. Glad I didn't update that now!

By the way, during the brief time it took me to type this reply, on my iPad 2, my wifi dropped out 5 times and reconnected on its own. :-(

The wireless connection problem with my Iphone 6 started today after the upgrade to iOS 8.4. Ignoring the network on the phone didn't work, it found and tried connecting to it over and over anyway. I then changed my WLAN from 2,4 to 5 GHz, which was probably totally irrelevant, and then hid the SSID, so I could eventually log in from my iPhone manually. That did the trick, at least for now.

It depends on your router, so I can't really tell. But in the menu where you can name your WLAN (which is accessed by browser and typing in the router's IP in the address bar) there's usually an option to hide it, cloak it or whatever it may be called in said menu. I have a Thomson device from my cable provider, where it's called "closed". If you do that, the Iphone will not be able to find your network automatically anymore and you'll have to type in the name (SSID) of your network and the password after choosing "other" at the bottom of all found networks. Mind that other devices won't find the network either after this, unless they run scanner software.
